According to one reporter, one key difference between the games was that the students could fight back and kill the Killer in Last Year. [[CriticalResearchFailure This quickly drew the ire of anyone who had even basic knowledge of Friday the 13th, as it was common knowledge that killing Jason is entirely possible in F13 (albeit only under one set of very specific circumstances).]] Many fans took to sarcastically referring to Last Year with said comparison. * CounterpartComparison: Many have compared ''Last Year'' to ''[[VideoGame/Left4Dead Left 4 Dead]]'' due to various gameplay similarities, mainly....
** The survivors can be revived in closets after death.
** The Strangler being able to grab and pull survivors over to him with a chain and grapple them until they are incapacitated like The Smoker.
** The Giant is often compared to a Tank (being the biggest out of the current three killers, attacks by punching survivors, extremely buff and bald) and a Charger (ability to charge forward to grab a survivor.)
** Killer cannot spawn out of "Predator" mode until they get far enough from a survivor as well as being out of their sight, like in the Versus mode for ''Left 4 Dead''.

** On the Killer side, playing the Strangler or Giant on the rafter sequence of the Gym map can make it nigh impossible for all five Survivors to escape, as they can drag or throw students off the rafters respectively.
