* CrossesTheLineTwice: During the PAX demos, some little messages such as [[{{Understatement}} "You might feel a slight sting"]] or "It was fun while it lasted" can appear while your survivor's being brutally executed.
* FandomRivalry: With ''VideoGame/DeadByDaylight'', due to both games being AsymmetricMultiplayer SurvivalHorror games featuring a team of survivors trying to escape by completing objectives against one serial killer. Due to ''Last Year'' being announced before ''Dead by Daylight'', but being heavily altered after its release, debates over who ripped off whom, or if two games with different playstyles in the same genre even qualify as rip-offs, are rampant among its playerbase.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Chad. His personality is definitely memorable, and he's the funniest out of the classmates.
* GameBreaker:
** The Shocker, an electric stun-gun that Medics on the Classmate team can craft. If tapped repeatedly, they can stun-lock the Fiend, leaving him completely helpless against Assaults on the Classmate team. The Shocker has since been changed to only have 2 charges, and later only one, but it's still pretty difficult to play around.
* MemeticMutation:
** "''Last Year'' is like ''[[VideoGame/FridayThe13thTheGame Friday the 13th]]'', [[JustForFun/RecycledInSpace but you can kill Jason!]]" [[labelnote:Explanation]]In [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BbmHn-IOug8 IGN's report on the Last Year demo at PAX East 2018]], many comparisons were drawn between ''Last Year'' and ''VideoGame/FridayThe13thTheGame''. According to one reporter, one key difference between the games was that the students could fight back and kill the Fiend in Last Year. This quickly drew the ire of anyone who had even basic knowledge of ''Friday the 13th'', as it was common knowledge that killing Jason is entirely possible in ''F13'' (albeit only under one set of very specific circumstances). Many fans took to sarcastically referring to ''Last Year'' with said comparison. Nowadays, though, most fans have concluded that IGN meant that fighting the Fiend was meant to be a regularly used mechanic in ''Last Year'', as opposed to a rare InstantWinCondition that only extremely coordinated groups of players could pull off.[[/labelnote]]
** There are a large amount of memes comparing the Giant to the Kool-Aid Man due to his ability to [[BarrierBustingBlow smash through walls]]. [[AscendedMeme Even Elastic Games is getting in on the fun:]] In the instruction manual, the description for the Giant's wall ambush says "Can you say 'OH YEAH!'"
** Memes about all the Fiends having an inexplicable, disproportionate amount of hatred for Chad compared to the rest of the Classmates are also popular.
* SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome: Generally, any time the Classmates have enough firepower to turn the tables on the Fiend and make ''him'' flee for his life for a change. Or, even better yet, channel [[Film/It2017 The Losers' Club beating up Pennywise]] by cornering him and [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown beating the living daylights out of him]] with their improvised weapons.
* {{Narm}}: The creepiness of the DownerEnding cutscene that plays when all five Students lose is kind of softened by the fact that one of the pictures nailed to the wall looks like the Mona Lisa.
** The execution animations for the Slasher and Spider will sometimes glitch out and result in them killing their victim by stabbing/biting them in the ass.
* NeverLiveItDown: After having its release date pushed back several times, and even requiring a re-release on Steam one year after poor reception to its Discord release, Elastic Games is never, ever going to hear the end of jokes about "Last Year" being [[{{Vaporware}} the scheduled release date of the game instead of the title.]]
* OlderThanTheyThink: Some fans of ''VideoGame/FridayThe13thTheGame'' are of the belief that Last Year was made as a response, when in actuality it's been in development since ''2014.''
