** It happened again in the 2017 Anime Awards, where it lost to ''Manga/MissKobayashisDragonMaid'' for "Best Comedy" and Kazuma lost to Shiro Todoroki from ''Manga/MyHeroAcademia'' for "Best Boy".

* AwardSnub: Was quite a huge one in Crunchyroll's 2016 Anime Awards. The only category it was nominated for "Best Comedy" it ended up losing and a lot of fans wanted Megumin to be nominated for "Best Girl". It didn't help that there was a close margin between it and the winner of "Best Comedy". At the very least however, Megumin was the most voted write-in for "Best Girl".

** Kazuma's constant perverted antics, like panties stealing and sexual harassment (which he gets away most of time). Despite being played for laughs, this bad seen by some people in the west, considering during the time Konosuba aired the sexual harassment cases became much more "unacceptable". And his "true gender equality" view only add more insult to the injury.

* ValuesDissonance: The antics of the Axis cult will be much more familiar to viewers in America, where niche religions and aggressive proselytizing can be an everyday reality. Could potentially be a case of AmericansHateTingle or MexicansLoveSpeedyGonzales depending on the viewer.

* JerkassWoobie: Aqua is a pretty terrible person, but the [[CryCute way]] she reacts to all the crap thrown in her face makes her kind of endearing, in a pathetic kind of way.

** You won't go a stone's throw without people comparing Kazuma to Creator/AliceSoft's Rance, both in aspects of the personality and in color acheme.

** Yunyun's loneliness. Obvviously it's played as BlackComedy, but even then it's kind of sad seeing [[OnePersonBirthdayParty how no one even bothered to go to her birthday]].

* TheWoobie: Yunyun, ''Yunyun'', '''Yunyun'''. Since childhood, she was often the object of ridicule from her peers and was obsessed with defeating Megumin, who had her own troubles to worry about. She has tried to make friends but they often take advantage from her. No wonder why she clings onto Kazuma and his party so much: ''they are the only ones even willing to give her the time of day''. Somebody give her a hug.

* InformedWrongness: For some reason Kazuma feels intense guilt over the running hawk kites who attack the wagon train the party are riding with in volume 4. The stampede of kites is technically the group's fault--they will charge at a particular rare metal, which happens to be used in Darkness's armor. However, how were the party supposed to know that? They've never heard of these animals, and no one knows the metallurgic breakdown of Darkness's armor except for her. If anyone ''were'' at fault, it would be the leader of the wagon train, who knows that the kites are present in the area and what sets them off, and should have checked for the presence of the metal before accepting the party's money. On top of that, it's not clear that anyone was even in danger--it turns out that the kites engage in a "chicken run" behavior where they pick a target, charge at it, and ''dodge'' at the last second. Luckily the party kills the entire flock without a hitch and no one in the wagon train figures out that the incident is the party's fault, but...once again, ''so what?''

** With ''Manga/ShouwaGenrokuRakugoShinjuu'' at least among the [[CultClassic few who watched it]]. Both shows aired in the same seasons with fans not expecting either of them to be as good as they were and being cited as showing that Studio DEEN can make some great shows. It also helps that both shows aired their second seasons at the same time both of which are not only helped make both shows more popular but are seen by some as [[EvenBetterSequel better than the first season.]]

** PlayedForLaughs just like pretty much everything else about the series. Most of the Demon King's henchmen that the party goes after are pretty much just minding their own business and not causing any trouble, which only serves to make the protagonists more of {{Unsympathetic Comedy Protagonist}}s.

* LauncherOfAThousandShips: Being a victim of an UnwantedHarem, Kazuma falls into this trope with the girls in his party and Eris by default.

* DesignatedHero: The main party consists of four people who manage to be equal parts {{Jerkass}} and [[WhatAnIdiot incredibly stupid]]. [[TropesAreTools It's part of the charm]].

* TearJerker: Kazuma's background and his death can be considered this; particularly the fact that his parents and the doctor who declared him dead [[BlackComedy laughed at the whole thing]]. Even if Kazuma can be a bit of a jerk, [[FridgeHorror that was pretty awful, and it shows how lonely and unloved Kazuma was]].

** With the first episode of season 2 coming out a lot of people are pointing out that the facial animations look even wonkier than they did in the first season. Seeing as how the wonky faces added to the charm of the show some see this as an improvement in the animation department and even believe that it might have been done on purpose in response to the first season. Others however see it as the animation only getting worse and won't let it slide as much. However, episodes 2 and 3 didn't have these problems, but then the same wonky style came back in episode 4. It was around this time viewers began to realize that this isn't so much bad quality, as it is intentional StylisticSuck on the part of a specific episode director...which then set off a whole new set of arguments.

* EvenBetterSequel: Though some do argue the first season was better there are still a lot of fans who believe the second season is the better installment. The second season in particular has been praised for the fact that it is more consistently funny than the first season now that it has a grasp on the humor. Also helping is the fact that with the principle cast introduced the series can do more with its characters and has episodes that try new things entirely or give a different spin on gags in the first season.

* TearJerker: Kazuma's background and his death can be considered this; particularly the fact that his parents and the doctor who declared him dead [[BlackComedy laughed at the whole thing]]. Even if Kazuma can be a bit of a jerk, [[FridgeHorror that was pretty awful, and it shows how lonely and unloved Kazuma was]].

** The second season as a whole has become divisive halfway through its run. Some think its just as funny if not funnier than the first season while others think the show and its characters have become stale. As stated above there's also the matter of the animation and if it has just gotten worse or its simply StylisticSuck.

** You won't go a stone's throw without people comparing Kazuma to Creator/AliceSoft's Rance.
