* AwardSnub: Was quite a huge one in Crunchyroll's 2016 Anime Awards. The only category it was nominated for "Best Comedy" it ended up losing and a lot of fans wanted Megumin to be nominated for "Best Girl". It didn't help that there was a close margin between it and the winner of "Best Comedy". At the very least however, Megumin was the most voted write-in for "Best Girl".

* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: In the first season, in the Succubus Shop, Kazuma asked if "age" is a problem for the dream. Then in the second season, he freaked out when he realized Aqua is coming while he and Megumin are taking a bath together, fearing being called a pedo. Sometime latter, Megumin said to her rival she and Kazuma are dating and again, he freaked out. Also in the first [=OVA=], he admitted while he carried her, he used the opportunity to feel her boobs in his back. Is Kazuma really wanting to do something with Megumin but are concerned about the consequences and unfortunate implications? Or this was just a random perverted act?

* ValuesDissonance: The antics of the Axis cult will be much more familiar to viewers in America, where niche religions and aggressive proselytizing can be an everyday reality. Could potentially be a case of AmericansHateTingle or MexicansLoveSpeedyGonzales depending on the viewer.

They dodged Darkness in that manner, but then onscreen bowled into other, nameless adventurers after doing so, because they were in the way; ergo they caused trouble and were a threat to the caravan, so his reasoning is fairly legitimate

* InformedWrongness: For some reason Kazuma feels intense guilt over the running hawk kites who attack the wagon train the party are riding with in volume 4. The stampede of kites is technically the group's fault--they will charge at a particular rare metal, which happens to be used in Darkness's armor. However, how were the party supposed to know that? They've never heard of these animals, and no one knows the metallurgic breakdown of Darkness's armor except for her. If anyone were at fault, it would be the leader of the wagon train, who knows that the kites are present in the area and what sets them off, and should have checked for the presence of the metal before accepting the party's money. On top of that, it's not clear that anyone was even in danger--it turns out that the kites engage in a "chicken run" behavior where they pick a target, charge at it, and dodge at the last second. Luckily the party kills the entire flock without a hitch and no one in the wagon train figures out that the incident is the party's fault, but...once again, so what?

** With the first episode of season 2 coming out a lot of people are pointing out that the facial animations look even wonkier than they did in the first season. Seeing as how the wonky faces added to the charm of the show some see this as an improvement in the animation department and even believe that it might have been done on purpose in response to the first season. Others however see it as the animation only getting worse and won't let it slide as much. However, episodes 2 and 3 didn't have these problems, but then the same wonky style came back in episode 4. It was around this time viewers began to realize that this isn't so much bad quality, as it is intentional StylisticSuck on the part of a specific episode director...which then set off a whole new set of arguments.

Part of the issue also revolves around ValuesDissonance over what is expected from anime compared to western animation, as "good animation" in the former is defined by fluidity, consistency, and attention to detail, while "good animation" in the latter is defined primarily by fluidity and expressiveness (without straying too far off-model); Geoff Thew of Mother's Basement surmises that the backlash towards season two (a backlash that he personally detests) is more due to it being a Japanese animated production that tries to capture the expressiveness of western animation.

* EvenBetterSequel: Though some do argue the first season was better there are still a lot of fans who believe the second season is the better installment. The second season in particular has been praised for the fact that it is more consistently funny than the first season now that it has a grasp on the humor. Also helping is the fact that with the principle cast introduced the series can do more with its characters and has episodes that try new things entirely or give a different spin on gags in the first season.

** The second season as a whole has become divisive halfway through its run. ** The second season as a whole has become was very divisive halfway through its run. Some think its just while it was airing. Debates on the second season range from the humor which is either seen as funny if not funnier than a step up from the first season while others think since it grew beyond the parody humor or is weaker since the style of humor wears thin and it begins to feel more like a typical fantasy with some jokes thrown in rather than a parody of fantasy light novels. There's also the animation which is either praised as StylisticSuck or even praised for being creative and the animation style being seen as a complement to the humor the show and its characters have become stale. As stated above there's also the matter is going for. Others were less forgiving of the animation and if actually seeing it has just gotten as DEEN not caring or at worse or its simply StylisticSuck.being a sign of the second season being a phoned-in cash cow sequel.

* BaseBreakingCharacter:
** Aqua being a BitchInSheepsClothing often causes a divide among viewers. Some actually think its funny that she's an unpleasant bitch in contrast to her divine nature and don't mind it when she complains or does something annoying since she usually gets her comeuppance. Others find her to be completely unbearable and the root of most of the problems the party has had. Or she's both.
** Kazuma is either seen as one of the funniest and most refreshing light novel male-leads in a while or simply frustrating to watch. Some find it very funny that he's treated like a loser in-universe and its played for comedic effect unlike other light novel leads who are just losers. Others however find him aggravating to watch since he never develops as a character, doesn't really get anywhere, and some of his antics can get quite annoying. A lot of his defenders however point out that the detractors take him too seriously and that he's not meant to be a character who develops or makes any progress.
* BrokenBase:
** While Kazuma's loser status is a major source of a lot of laughs in the series, there's a segment of the fandom that want him to be properly rewarded for his accomplishments and increasing competence -- in essence playing the tensei harem hero straight.
** Kazuma's constant belittling and insulting of Aqua divides the fanbase. A lot see it as good comedy and note that Aqua frequently brings it on herself. However, there are quite a few fans who find it to have uncomfortable sexist overtones.
** Kazuma's blatant sexual harassment of his female companions from book 4 onward. While some fans say that, it is alright because it is all in good fun and nothing will ever come of it, it has made some segments of the fandom uncomfortable. Kazuma's own justifications on just why he's doing it didn't do him any favors either.
** With the first episode of season 2 coming out a lot of people are pointing out that the facial animations look even wonkier than they did in the first season. Seeing as how the wonky faces added to the charm of the show some see this as an improvement in the animation department and even believe that it might have been done on purpose in response to the first season. * CounterpartComparison:
** Many viewers have compared Megumin to Rikka Takkanashi from LightNovel/LoveChunibyoAndOtherDelusions. In fact, Creator/MaayaUchida who voiced Rikka also voiced Megumin in the Drama CD.
** Likewise there are some fans who have compared Darkness to Saber as both characters have blonde hair, wield a sword, and are dedicated to honor and protecting people.
* DesignatedVillain:
** PlayedForLaughs just like pretty much everything else about the series. Most of the Demon King's henchmen that the party goes after are pretty much just minding their own business and not causing any trouble, which only serves to make the protagonists more of s.
** Subverted with Hans, who wasn't only planning to economically cripple an entire city, he also ate an Axis cult overseer just because he found him annoying. Even Wiz, a certified NiceGirl, was outraged.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Yunyun resonated well with viewers thanks to her sweet and gentle personality, rivalry with Megumin and Creator/AkiToyosaki's performance.
* FandomRivalry: With LightNovel/ReZero over which title deconstructed the "trapped in a strange world" genre better. Either you think [=KonoSuba=] did it better because it's a self-aware parody that tries to stay as far away from the genre's common tropes as possible, or you think Re:Zero did it better since it played many genre tropes straight but applies a DarkerAndEdgier feel to the genre. Ironically, the authors of both series are close friends.
* FountainOfMemes: It cannot be stressed enough just how insanely popular Megumin became in the anime community. Just to give a minor example, here's a StupidStatementDanceMix based off of the first two minutes she shows up.
* FriendlyFandoms:
** With LightNovel/GrimgarOfFantasyAndAsh. Both shows aired in the same season and focus on Deconstruction deconstructing the TrappedInAnotherWorld trope, which has practically become its own sub-genre in the LightNovel industry. Unlike almost every other example of the trope, the protagonists of both series don't become all-powerful badasses, and they are stuck with rather incompetent party members. The major difference falls in the tone of each show, with Grimgar being deadly serious and Konosuba being light-hearted fun, making for an interesting contrast between the two.
** With Diamond is Unbreakable as of recently since both the first season of [=KonoSuba=] and the Diamond is Unbreakable anime aired in 2016 one season apart from each other. With the Diamond is Unbreakable anime concluding in the Fall 2016 season the new season of [=KonoSuba=] due to being highly anticipated is filling the void Diamond is Unbreakable left after it concluded for seasonal anime viewers.
** With Manga/ShouwaGenrokuRakugoShinjuu at least among the few who watched it. Both shows aired in the same seasons with fans not expecting either of them to be as good as they were and being cited as showing that Studio DEEN can make some great shows. It also helps that both shows aired their second seasons at the same time both of which are not only helped make both shows more popular but are seen by some as better than the first season.
* GrowingTheBeard: The beginning of the series is funny but many agree that it really picks up during the party's battle with Beldia. It is the first arc in the series that isn't just the party goofing off and is where it finally becomes comfortable with its sense of humor and characters.
* IronWoobie: Kazuma. Resurrected into a world he barely understands, he has to defeat a villain that has terrorized the world for centuries and no other adventurer has no intention of doing the job. Kazuma isn't an idiot, he knows he is only a hero because he is the only one that actually cares about actually trying to make things better. He also has to put up with a party of eccentric individuals who seem to be more trouble than they're worth and his attempts to do the right thing either backfire or go unnoticed. Still, that never stops Kazuma from treasuring the simple joys in life with his new friends and every once in a while, something will go right for him, no strings attached.
* JustHereForGodzilla: In light of the above, there are lots of people who decided to check out the show just to see why and how a certain chuunibyou flame mage singlehandedly set off a hype barrage.
* LauncherOfAThousandShips: Being a victim of an UnwantedHarem, Kazuma falls into this trope with the girls in his party and Eris by default.
* MemeticBadass: Kazuma. Due to being the antithesis of the average Harem Protagonist Kazuma being Sarcastic, crude, and openly perverted it's actually won him over a lot of fans. Unfortunately, this also has a tendency to crossover into MisaimedFandom territory as well since some fans will glorify him specifically for his negative traits.
* MemeticMutation:
** This image of Megumin from the ED is often copy/pasted over pictures of explosions.
** Explosions. Megumin frequently obsesses over being skilled in explosion magic, as such many fans have come to affiliate this show with explosions.
** On anime image boards, a lot of people have taken to posting pictures of the OffModel facial expressions.
** Including Deen itself in S2's OP.
* SheReallyCanAct: After voicing several characters of TheCutie and TheStoic archetypes, there were some who believed Creator/SoraAmamiya lacked vocal range. Her work as Aqua earned her a lot of praise.
* Shipping: Inevitable as the series goes on, and Kazuma slowly accumulates a chain of female acquaintances in the new world. Kazuma x Megumin and Kazuma x Eris are the most popular pairings for Japanese fans and readers. The light novel has entire story arcs to support Kazuma x Darkness and Kazuma x Megumin.
* SweetDreamsFuel: Both ending songs are uncharacteristically comfy and lax considering the fact that the three heroines are singing them, and combined with the mundane activities they're shown doing, it makes it a very pleasant watch.
* UncannyValley: Being a Creator/StudioDEEN anime the in-between animation can come off as this at times but for a lot of people it actually added to the charm of the series.
* WinBackTheCrowd: This show (along with Manga/ShouwaGenrokuRakugoShinjuu) went a long way towards rehabilitating Creator/StudioDEEN's reputation among anime fandom, which had been synonymous with bad quality for the prior 10 years.
* TheWoobie: Yunyun, Yunyun, Yunyun. Since childhood, she was often the object of ridicule from her peers and was obsessed with defeating Megumin, who had her own troubles to worry about. She has tried to make friends but they often take advantage from her. No wonder why she clings onto Kazuma and his party so much: they are the only ones even willing to give her the time of day. Somebody give her a hug.
