* MagnificentBastard: Caiaphas is the intelligent HighPriest of Jerusalem. When the popularity of UsefulNotes/{{Jesus}} of Nazareth puts his people at risk, Caiaphas [[WellIntentionedExtremist decides to have Jesus killed to protect his people]]. Caiaphas proceeds to manipulate Judas Iscariot into giving him Jesus's location, exploiting his altruistic motives to make him take money for the deed. He then has Jesus brought to the Roman government, utilizing the crowd's bloodlust to force Roman governor Pontius Pilate into a corner. Caiaphas then exploits the lack of a death penalty among his community to force Pilate to execute Jesus, leaving him to take the blame for Jesus's death, [[TheBadGuyWins succeeding in his goal and keeping his people safe]].

* HaveIMentionedIAmHeterosexualToday: The opening sequence of the 1973 version seems to go out of its way to make sure the viewer knows that the character played by the adorable, mosquito-like, falsetto-voiced Kurt Yaghjian (Annas) has a girlfriend in-universe.

* ObviouslyEvil:
** The Priests in the 2012 version. They all wear suits (very much like investment bankers, in this Occupy-themed production), their council seems to take place in a boardroom, and their insignia (seen at the start of This Jesus Must Die) is an Eye of Providence (evoking the Illuminati) in a laurel wreath (evoking Rome). Caiaphas specifically falls straight into this, with his slicked-back hair and BeardOfEvil.
** In the 2018 NBC performance, the priests wear long black coats with cowls, making them look more like Sith Lords than religious leaders.
** {{Averted|Trope}} with Caiaphas in the otherwise fairly straightforward 2000 version, however. He has a relatively benevolent-looking face, as opposed to Annas, who looks almost exactly like [[Franchise/HarryPotter Voldemort]]. Played straight by Pilate in the same version - he has a chinstrap BeardOfEvil and his costume is a combination of a Gestapo officer and a Roman legionary.

* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Brian Keith (Annas) and John Gustafson (Simon the Zealot) from the original album were approached for the film but didn't not get any further as they both didn't had any acting experience.

** The 2014 Swedish Arena Tour dials up the HoYay and [[UpToEleven breaks the knob off]]. It starts with Judas singing "Heaven on their Minds" to a sleeping Jesus with lots of longing looks and lingering touches. Also, the kiss with which Judas betrays Jesus is a full-on BigDamnKiss: no cheek or forehead kissing here! (The kiss is immediately followed by a hug with the two of them clinging to each other, and Judas looks absolutely devestated to be doing what he's doing as he holds Jesus.)

** In the 2014 Swedish arena tour, Judas walks in on Jesus and Mary holding each other right after "I Don't Know How to Love Him", and, angered by it, flings them from the swing they're sitting on, helps Jesus up, and grabs his face as if he's trying to pull him in for a kiss. Jesus throws him off and a crushed Judas runs offstage leading into "Damned For All Time", leaving one with the implication that Jesus's rejection is a key factor in Judas's decision to betray him.

** It's subtle but in the 2000 film, during ''Hosanna'' and ''Simon Zealotes'' some of the disciples are wearing vaguely militaristic gear along with/instead of their "normal" costumes. This is all fine and good except for one whose body armour looks eerily similar to the stereotypical suicide-bomber vest that the world would become very familiar with in a matter of years...
