After executing the hit flawlessly, Bryce makes preparations in case he's double-crossed by his employers, before making his escape into the woods. Eventually found, Bryce [[FaceDeathWithDignity accepts his death]] before returning as a ghost and convincing Hit-Monkey to carry out his revenge, while teaching him about firearms and performing assassinations. With Bryce's help, Hit-Monkey is able to find and kill each member of TheConspiracy that hired Bryce, before defeating its mastermind and learning that he backed up Shinji Yokohama. Bryce helps kill Lady Bullseye before convincing Hit-Monkey to spare Shinji so that he may find peace. This act allows Bryce to ascend to the afterlife, only to make a deal to [[IChooseToStay return to Hit-Monkey's side]] so that he may continue to watch over his companion.
** [[BigBad Ichiro Hazaki]] is [[DiabolicalMastermind the Bonsai Master]], a mysterious figure who uses his influence in Japanese politics and the criminal underworld to rule Japan from the shadows. Hazaki hires Bryce Fowler to assassinate candidate Ken Takahara, before replacing him with his puppet Shinji Yokohama while [[PlayingBothSides also backing]] Shinji's rival, Ozu, to ensure that he'll control Japan's future regardless of who wins, also killing Bryce once [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness he serves his purpose]]. When Hit-Monkey starts killing off members of his conspiracy, Hazaki places a high bounty on Hit-Monkey before hiring Lady Bullseye so that he will be too distracted to interfere with his plans. Hazaki himself battles against Hit-Monkey before committing [[BetterToDieThanBeKilled seppuku to deny Hit-Monkey his final victory]], while declaring that he will not be able to change anything.

Monkey comes to the realization that he's an outcast between worlds, and can never fit in with other macaques or humans.
** Bryce's backstory where [[spoiler: he's forced to leave his wife and daughter and become an assassin because he killed his mother's latest boyfriend who turns out to be a criminal that stole a gang's money.]]
** Akiko, perhaps the most moral and wholesome character in the show [[spoiler: had to watch her uncle, the last living relative she had, get shot dead by Monkey whom she had considered a friend. [[FaceHeelTurn The grief drives her insane and she becomes the second Lady Bullseye]].]]

* NightmareFuel: Lady Bullseye is horrifyingly efficient and utterly ruthless, murdering four people in her debut for petty reasons. Monkey also counts with some of his kills.

* CompleteMonster: [[DarkActionGirl Maki Matsumoto]], better known as Lady Bullseye, [[EstablishingCharacterMoment first establishes]] herself as a [[PsychoForHire remorselessly sadistic assassin]] by brutally [[DisproportionateRetribution murdering four people for minor annoyances]]. Hired to kill Hit-Monkey, Lady Bullseye slaughters monkeys in an enclosure to send a message to him, before blowing up the house Hit-Monkey was staying at. She would then [[CopKiller murder Detective Ito]] before chasing Hit-Monkey, causing untold death and destruction in her relentless pursuit. Lady Bullseye later murders an innocent tailor and tortures a blind monk for Hit-Monkey's whereabouts before killing him and gouging his eyes out. Knowing that Hit-Monkey will come after Shinji Yokohama, Lady Bullseye holds him and his niece hostage to lure Hit-Monkey, killing his bodyguard and pilot so they won't escape. She would then face off with Hit-Monkey before using salt to torture his companion ghost, Bryce Fowler, when he tries intervening.
