* MissedMomentOfAwesome: Ron and Hermione [[spoiler:recovering the basilisk fangs from the ChamberOfSecrets. This could have been used to show another spiritual illusion to try and stop them, like with the locket,]] but it was left out due to the book's CosmicDeadline (see above).
** Luckily, we got to see it in the movie.
** In the book, [[spoiler:before the Dursleys leave Privet Drive, Dudley shows concern about Harry’s safety, tells Harry that he doesn’t consider him to be "a waste of space," is thankful to him for saving his life, and even shakes his hand]]. For [[spoiler:Dudley]], this is positive CharacterDevelopment and a CrowningMomentOfAwesome rolled into one, [[spoiler:because it presents Dudley as finally accepting and appreciating Harry]]. Disappointingly, this is left out in the film.
*** Though this one does appear amongst the deleted scenes on the DVD/BluRay, at least.
** Missed moment of hilarity: The Dursleys go on a road-trip with two wizards. We only see them leave.

** Ties into FanonDiscontinuity as well: many simply pretend that the Epilogue (or even the last two books) never happened, and instead read AlternateUniverse fics [[CompletelyMissingThePoint focusing mainly on the romance]]. Rowling has gotten ''death threats'' over this, and even has been told that [[DeathOfTheAuthor she doesn't know the characters like they do]]. You know, the characters she created. And that she has to [[{{Subtext}} "read between the lines"]]. You know, the lines she wrote.

* ShipSinking: [[JKRowling J.K. Rowling]] had to sink the [[spoiler:Harry/Hermione ship]] ''thrice'', the third time of which was in this book. First, in an interview about the possible pairing, Rowling said she didn't think they were suited for each other. Secondly in ''HalfBloodPrince'', and then the internet exploded, with [[spoiler:Harry/Hermione shippers]] [[SeriousBusiness sending out death threats, burning books]], and [[FanDumb swearing to abandon the series if she didn't change it]]. To drive the nail in the coffin, this book has Harry giving the "LikeBrotherAndSister" speech to Ron and Hermione, right after a scene in which Harry/Hermione appears as an evil illusion [[spoiler:made by the locket-Horcrux]] that seems vaguely perverse and is intended entirely to enrage Ron into attacking Harry by using frequent Harmonian arguments, at that.
** And yet, as an indication to how many found it written throughout the books, it still goes strong in fandom, with maninly Ron/Hermione shippers getting very annoyed at that fact. Maybe if R/H was written as well as many people clearly found H/H to be, they would live and let live?

** Although it serves to illustrate what is never explicitly stated in the film: that Harry and Hermione are like siblings and will never be a romantic couple. The dancing scene looks like a make-out scene at first, but it soon becomes apparent that Harry is only trying to cheer Hermione up. He fails.

** The [[spoiler:Snape Pensive Sequence]]. Seeing [[spoiler: Snape cradle]] Lilly's body will rip those tears right our of eyes, mark this troper's words.

** The [[spoiler:Snape Pensive Sequence.]]

* AbandonShipping: Too many to mention, but any couple that wasn't [[spoiler:Harry/Ginny]], [[spoiler:Ron/Hermione]], or [[spoiler:Remus/Tonks and Bill/Fleur]] was officially torpedoed.

*** No, I'm sorry, what makes it even more awesome is that he is ON FIRE while doing it, having been set on fire for refusing to kneel before Voldemort.

** The [[spoiler:Snape Pensive Sequence.}}

** Dumbledore's gayness, or at least the relationship with Grindelwald. Not only did it come as a lame WordOfGod (and kinda offensive), but it robbed all of the moral ambiguity and depth away from Dumbledore's mistake. Instead of the foolishness of ego and age, resentment, despair of the conceited, the darker side of the Light, the fall from grace, and the quest for power (and what those with power should do with it), it transformed the entire thing in a cheap soap opera barely worthy of a Slash Fic. Better leave the book's message: the danger of a PoisonousFriend, the corrupting influence of power, and the foolishness that even those who are wise and powerful can fall into.

* GeniusBonus: Probably unintentional, but the conflict in Shakespeare's ''TheWintersTale'' begins with a man who believes that his wife (named Hermione) is cheating on him with his best friend.
** Seeing as Hermione was ''named after the character from TheWintersTale'', it's hard to call this one unintentional.

** On the other hand, she said Neville/Luna wasn't canon. [[spoiler: On the other hand, DHpt2 has Neville tell Harry he has to tell Luna how he feels. AndThereWasMuchRejoycing for the Neville/Luna shippers]]
* ShipToShipCombat: Or rather Ship To Ship last stands, as this book effectively crushed the hopes of numerous shippers, but especially Harry/Hermione shippers. However, true to the nature of shipping, many [[DieForOurShip still remain in denial.]]

* WhatAnIdiot: Yes, to safeguard the Horcrux, let's wear it at all times. It's not like we had proof that said Horcruxes can posses or damage the bearer or had a handy bag to put it in. And the feelings of paranoia and anger, plus the deterioration of friendship... totally normal.
** This troper legit can't get over how stupid they were to do that.

* Squick: In the film, while immensely satisfying to see at the same time, [[spoiler: the Voldy-flakes produced as Voldemort disintegrates. In 3D.]]
