* MagnificentBastard: [[DarkMessiah Chairman Gilbert Durendal]]/[[SpellMyNameWithAnS Durandal]] is just as brilliant as he was in the source material, a visionary who hopes to transform the scape of the world with his Destiny Plan under the belief that he is the world's potential saviour. Durendal presents himself as a moderate and a pacifist, making use of Lord Teivel Jibril's blatant acts of terrorism via Blue Cosmos to launch an invasion of the Earth Sphere disguised as a liberation. Using his own reputation for honesty, Durendal has Lacus Clyne discreetly assassinated and replaces her with Lacus fangirl Meer Campbell, using the image of Lacus through Meer to camouflage his intentions, and scattering agents of [[StateSec FAITH]] throughout the ZAFT military to keep an eye on its loyalty. Preying on the emotional insecurities of those in his service, Durendal attempts to manipulate Shinn Asuka into becoming the very thing he is fighting against, leading to the defeat of hero Kira Yamato when Shinn pursues the former out of vengeance. Keeping his reputation healthy as ZAFT's forces battle Jibril, Durendal is able to keep the veterans of the previous war either out of the picture, or unsure whether they should oppose him, and is only defeated in the end when Meer Campbell learns of Lacus' death and exposes Durendal's intentions. Killed as a result of Shinn Asuka and most of his forces rebelling against him, Durendal keeps himself convinced to the very end that he is right despite [[WellIntentionedExtremist his methods]], and that the world is doomed without him.

Succeeding [[FaceOfAnAngelMindOfADemon Muruta Azrael]] after his death in the First Junius War, Jibril retains all of Azrael's bigotry, but [[StupidEvil lacks all the intelligence and charisma that made Azrael such an effective leader]]. Having returned Blue Cosmos to its terrorist roots, Jibril continues the Extended program with Stella Loussier and Auel Neider. Exploiting the cataclysmic ColonyDrop of the remains of Junius 7, Jibril opens the war with a nuclear assault on the [=PLANTs=]. He later unleashes the massive [[HumongousMecha Destroy]] -- piloted by the mentally unwell [[TykeBomb Stella]] -- on Eurasia, leading to millions of civilian casualties. He also personally uses the [[WeaponOfMassDestruction Requiem]] to kill over a million of innocents while bragging about having the guts to do it. Constantly concerned with his own skin above anything and anyone else, [[DirtyCoward Jibril has the tendency to retreat and abandon his allies whenever he feels his life is in danger]], and entertains plans of world domination once the war is over. Where a low-functioning sociopath such as himself would usually be considered pathetic, Jibril was defined by not just his determination to [[FinalSolution annihilate the Coordinators as a race]], but his immorality combined with near-unlimited resources and considerable influence, transforming what would usually be an incompetent enemy to a truly terrifying adversary.
