• Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: Shinn, by means of providing him with extensive character development he was denied in the series. Meer as well, especially after she learns what happened to Lacus. It is strongly implied that her actions in the story's concluding arc are in part motivated by this knowledge.
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Kira's survival. It only comes up in the last chapter and feels like an afterthought to wrap up Shinn's character development. It would have been interesting to have Kira take a bigger role in Shinn's character arc, with a moment where Kira reflects on his failures and Shinn finally puts his old demons to rest by seeing Kira as a human.
  • The latest revision of the story expands a little on Kira by means of a single scene in a late chapter in which he is seen reflecting on what has happened over the course of the story, and begins to come to terms with what has happened and his own role in those events, particularly with regards to Shinn.
