* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: Mantis and Peter have little to no interaction aside from a brief gag involving Mantis exposing his feelings for Gamora. In a film that focuses heavily on family relationships, many consider it a wasted opportunity as Ego raising Mantis makes her and Peter adoptive siblings (and a deleted scene confirms that Mantis is actually one of Ego's children making them half-siblings), though no meaningful moments come of this.

[[labelnote:Explanation]]This [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-e6hpy0IIEc scene]] quickly became memetic with many quotes and memes with Peter and Rocket being replaced by other characters, usually involving characters that have AbusiveParents or an ArchnemesisDad[[/labelnote]]

** Though how evil she is is up for debate, Ayesha is definitely an antagonist, and played by gorgeous StatuesqueStunner Creator/ElizabethDebicki. [[GreenSkinnedSpaceBabe The gold skin, eyes, hair, and wardrobe help.]]
** And of course, there's Creator/KurtRussell as Ego. While undeniably monstrous, he's quite the SilverFox.

* QuestionableCasting: Music/MileyCyrus having a cameo at ''all'' got this reaction from a bunch of people, but the reactions were even more confused over the fact that her character is traditionally a [[spoiler:masculine android]] in the comics.

** Creator/DaveBautista is only involved in one fight scene in the entire film (specifically, the opening credits). He spends all his other screen time being the comedy relief, displaying surprising and impressive versatility as a thespian. And when the scene requires it, he's fully capable of playing Drax's serious emotional beats with complete sincerity. Special praise should be given to both him and Creator/PomKlementieff in the scene where Drax allows Mantis to feel his grief over his dead family -- Klementieff's broken sobbing contrasted with Bautista's [[StepfordSmiler gently stoic smile]] makes the scene ''amazingly'' effective and heartwrenching.

This trope is for when a serious moment becomes -unintentionally funny-. It does not refer to jokes that don't land or wear out their welcome

* {{Narm}}: While the first movie had a decent balance between humour and drama, this one definitely leans heavily on the former and not for the better:
** The stretching of jokes getting drawn past the point of humour, to the point where it feels like it was better left on the Blooper reel. Whether it's discussing Yondu's finn.
** Drax asking Ego if he made a penis isn't bad. Ego actually answering the question kinda is, since, how else did he conceive his son?
** Mother. Fricking. Taserface. The character's name alone is cringeworthy, and as Rocket jokes, he looks more like a specific body part. Then there's the fact that the moron doesn't actually tries to explain the reasoning behind his name. The idea that he knows of a word like: "Metaphorical" and yet has no idea how to use it, is weird.

** When the first film revealed that Quill's father was an unknown but very powerful alien, some fans speculated that [[spoiler: his father was responsible for Meredith's death, though they hadn't expected it to be ''intentional'' on Ego's part]].
** After seeing Yondu as a Ravager, many suspected that the other OG Guardians of the Galaxy might show up as Ravagers, too.
** Some viewers, after watching the first movie and noticing how incredibly aggressive Yondu was when his authority was even slightly threatened, couldn't help but wonder if the long-term stability of his Ravager crew was already decaying. Just two months later in-universe, their concerns were proved right.
