** It's not really helped by the fact that Jim's early characterization came off as ''genuinely'' nice and well-meaning, if unintentionally creepy in his over-earnestness. It honestly sometimes feels as though that was how Corsetto really intended him as first, then she realized that no girl wanting to romance him for no logical reason they could put their finger on, could superficially fit into the narrative of real EntitledToHaveYou so-called "Nice Guys", so she [[Flanderization re-tooled him explicitly into one of them]].

It honestly sometimes feels as though that was how Corsetto really intended him as first, then realized that no girl wanting to romance him for (literally) no reason they could put their finger on kind of played into the narrative of real EntitledToHaveYou so-called "Nice Guys", so she re-tooled him explicitly into one of them.

** It's come up again with [[http://www.girlswithslingshots.com/comic/gws-1706/ this strip]]. Chris mentions that he's stopped hanging out with Jim because Jim can't stand to hear him talk about his relationship with Melody, implying that he's still gushing about his relationship and how much sex he's getting to someone who's lonely and having trouble meeting women. With the guys snarking about him and the fact they stopped hanging out with him after one frustrated blow-up that was taken out of context, they don't come off looking much better than Jim.

** At the time of writing, Zach [[spoiler: dumped her after she attempted to call his bluff about ending the relationship if she wasn't willing to commit.]] A phone call Hazel receives at work the next day hammers home just how serious this is. Now obviously YMMV, but [[spoiler: the note Zach left with her things made it clear that he still felt strongly for her and that he "couldn't handle seeing her for awhile" because it would "take a lot of time to get over [her]."]] Plus, this whole thing might be a way to ramp up Hazel's [[TheWoobie woobie]] status.
*** Exactly : even when she's being dumped, we're supposed to root for her, while she just brings this on herself and fails to even recognize it. An abrasive, immature and completely self-centered person who doesn't give anything back while cheerfully taking all an SO has to offer is someone you're glad to see the back off, not mooch after and "still feel strongly for", even in breakups do always hurt. YMMV, of course, but I think there is simply ''nothing'' in her to love, either for Zach or for the reader. Thea is a Woobie, Hazel is just a JerkAss that fails to even be amusing. And as of today and the [[MoralEventHorizon event with the goldfish]] I am officially not reading the comic anymore.
*** It wasn't even that, they broke up because she refused to LISTEN. At all. She couldn't even manage a general conversation on the topic of their potential future together. She wouldn't even let him state his own feelings. She also seems to think that storming out, even if she has to run home naked, automatically means she wins the discussion and he'll have to apologise to her. It's safe to say Hazel fails at relationships of any kind at this point.
*** And now for the record: [[StatusQuoIsGod A reconciliation looms on the horizon]]. [[WhyWouldAnyoneTakeHimBack Why would anyone take her back?]]
*** Perhaps this is a set-up for Hazel maturing just a little? She's already laid off the booze...maybe, just maybe, she'll grow a heart of gold to go with that jerk. Maybe.
