Later on, Chris (feeling bad about the whole Jim thing) admits to Jim that he has nothing against him. Jim calls the other guys 'assholes', and when Chris points out that just because they don't like him, it doesn't make them assholes, Jim retorts "If they were decent they would have at least '''tried''' to like me." This after Jim has insulted them to their faces. In any case, the debate about the sort of character Jim was intended to be, and how he comes across, continues.

* UnintentionallySympathetic: Jim:
** Corsetto intended to portray him as a [[EntitledToHaveYou hypocritical]] DoggedNiceGuy, [[WordOfGod claiming so]] on [[https://twitter.com/#!/dcorsetto/status/137268323955113985 one of her tweets]]; unfortunately the scenes that resulted from her "research" put him [[http://www.girlswithslingshots.com/comic/gws-1279/ next to Chris]] [[http://www.girlswithslingshots.com/comic/gws-1280/ who was just bragging about getting laid]], painting him as a [[StrawLoser loser]] to whom [[KickThemWhileTheyAreDown it's okay to brag that you are getting what he is not]], and if that was not enough, [[http://www.girlswithslingshots.com/comic/gws-1281/ when Jim snaps for this he is then portrayed by other guys as making the false dichotomy that since a Nice Guy can't get laid]] [[http://www.girlswithslingshots.com/comic/gws-1285/ then all guys who do must be Jerkasses]].

** One of his first appearances in "Members Only" (aka Guys' Night Out) had him confiding in Angel about how he seemed to either be invisible to women, or easily glossed over as soon as they saw another guy, and that only other guys and lesbians seemed interested in talking to him... only to then realize that he's sitting by himself.

Chris mentions that he's stopped hanging out with Jim because Jim can't stand to hear him talk about his relationship with Melody, implying that he's still gushing about his relationship and how much sex he's getting to someone who's lonely and having trouble meeting women. With the guys snarking about him and the fact they stopped hanging out with him after one frustrated blow-up that was taken out of context, they don't come off looking much better than Jim.
** It's not really helped by the fact that Jim's early characterization came off as ''genuinely'' nice and well-meaning, if unintentionally creepy in his over-earnestness. It honestly sometimes feels as though that was how Corsetto really intended him as first, then she realized that no girl wanting to romance him for no logical reason they could put their finger on could superficially fit into the narrative of real EntitledToHaveYou so-called "Nice Guys", so she [[{{Flanderization}} re-tooled him explicitly into one of them]].
** This was acknowledged by the author herself during the colored re-issues of the strips, in the comments she expressed that she wished she would have conveyed more clearly what was exactly what Jim was doing wrong.

** Jamie stumbles into that territory quite often too. It's just not as noticable, because of all the adorable bubbliness and because the jerkishness usually goes against Hazel, which seems to be acceptable.

* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: Hazel as mentioned at Jerk Sue above, Corsetto has said that she deliberately writes her as a flawed character to make her more believable, however many times this crosses into Hazel being downright unlikable.

* JerkSue : The author probably aims at JerkWithAHeartOfGold, but Hazel has progressively more and more of Jerk traits, and little to no Heart at all. Her relationship is based - on her part - solely on sex, she constantly fails to offer any support, feeling or pretty much ''anything'' to her friends and boyfriend other than the sight of her being drunk. And still she has all these people who care for her, the perfect Wish Fulfillment boyfriend and happy coincidences to help her pull through. As the comic progresses, the number of times other characters [[InformedAbility say out loud]] how they are friends and care for her increases greatly, too.
** It gets a little better when her jerk attitude causes Zach to end his relationship with her, but the Sue end takes another spin through the revolving door when she gets a phone call out of nowhere offering her a book deal.
