YMMV can't be played with. Also comment out a ZCE, despite its length, the Ensemble Darkhorse entry say nothing about the character's popularity

* DracoInLeatherPants: Averted for Hans; while he is portrayed sympathetically, his actions are not glossed over or excused.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Prince Heins, a NiceGuy with a great sense of fashion, who cares enough for his brother to ask for a pardon, accompany him even though he's not supposed to leave the kingdom, [[spoiler:and risk his life to save Hans]].

* EnsembleDarkhorse: Prince Heins, a NiceGuy with a great sense of fashion, who cares enough for his brother to ask for a pardon, accompany him even though he's not supposed to leave the kingdom, [[spoiler:and risk his life to save Hans]].
* HarsherInHindsight: After the story came a book published by Disney with a similar name, ''Literature/AFrozenHeart''. Like this story, it humanizes Hans and gives a sympathetic portrayal and his backstory. Unlike this story, it's shown his father [[AbusiveParents is an emotionally and potentially physically abuse]] [[TheSociopath sociopath]] whose [[GreaterScopeVillain treatment of his son drove him into committing his actions in Arendelle]]. His mother is [[BrokenBird a genuine caring woman but is unable to act out due to childbirth taking its toll on her and probable fear of her husband]]. While Hans did have a genuinely caring brother like Heins, named Lars, [[UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom he was the one who suggested marrying Elsa as a means of leaving their abusive home]].
* HilariousInHindsight: At one point in the story, Hans [[DisguisedInDrag disguises himself as a woman.]] In 2019, [[Creator/SantinoFontana his voice actor]] would do the same thing [[{{Film/Tootsie}} on Broadway.]]
* JerkassWoobie:
** Hans has done some terrible things in the film, but the bad things that happen to him here aren’t always the result of his own actions (for example, several of his brothers were cold to him even before he became a political liability by trying to kill Elsa and usurp the throne), making it harder to say that he deserves this treatment.
** While less of a jerk than Hans was, Helena comes off as bitter and distrustful toward others. But when you hear her backstory, about how her parents were dismissed from their service in the castle without being told why, both of them died, and she ended up working off her debt, it's hard not to feel sorry for her.
