* {{Narm}}:
** The kangaroo mother's SkywardScream in the second movie, where she drops to her knees while surrounded by flames and shouts "MY BAAAAAAABYYYYYYYY!!" The overly dramatic moment comes out of nowhere, and just looks silly with a cartoon kangaroo.
*** And when she's finally reunited with her child near the end? They have an awkwardly rushed exchange. Not helped by this happening right after an equally awkward scene where Bungie and Pips say their goodbyes... before Pips quickly flies away from her without another word, as if he wanted to get away from her ASAP.
** Bungie falling off the cliff after rescuing the animals from the poacher is meant to be a tense, dramatic scene of her falling to her death... made hilarious by her voice actress sounding more like [[DullSurprise she's doing a vocal warmup]].
* NarmCharm: For some, the kangaroo mother's SkywardScream still manages to be pretty sad.

"Anti-Role Model" doesn't apply here — Hexxus has too much of a cool factor, whereas this trope is an Anvilicious Hate Sink character.

* DoNotDoThisCoolThing: Even though Hexxus is an exceptionally vile EcocidalAntagonist who wants to pollute the entire world, Creator/TimCurry's memorable performance (especially in the VillainSong, "Toxic Love") gives the character a distinct coolness and sex appeal that unintentionally makes pollution seem the better alternative to the rest of the film's {{anvilicious}} GreenAesop.

* MisaimedFandom: Hexxus has a huge following. Just read the comments for "Toxic Love" on Website/YouTube. But this is what happens when you let Creator/TimCurry do speaking ''and'' singing parts for your villain character; he just might become an AntiRoleModel.

* CommonKnowledge: Many people tend to interpret Hexxus as being a deity over pollution as a means of pointing out how {{Anvilicious}} the movie is. In actuality, Hexxus is a DestroyerDeity whose purpose is to cause mass destruction across the Earth, though, since Magi stated that he was spreading his poison back then, pollution could merely be just a way to speed up the process for him, rather than being his ''modus operandi''.

* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation:
** Because of his insanity, whenever Batty Koda "switches channels," he could be hallucinating in some fashion. The 'acid' parts of the "Batty Rap" could be interpreted as him seeing things, hearing voices in his head and speaking to himself. On the other hand, the wires and antenna could very well send radio signals to his brain, and his emotions and thought process are affected by the "channel" he's on. (If it's a cheery channel he's in a good mood, if it's a consumerist channel he acts like a sales person, if it's a patriotic channel he's ready for war, etc.)
** Also Pips in the second film. Supposed to save young animals from poachers? Go off and screw around human culture while the smallest of your gang and an on-and-off insane (but oddly OnlySaneMan) bat go and try do it themselves. This is seen as extremely selfish of Pips but we also see that he simply can't focus on the mission and is distracted by a world he's never seen or thought of before, and when he finally remembers what his mission is, he's deeply ashamed for losing his focus. Admit it, [[FridgeBrilliance imagine if a human was thrown into a different culture or lifestyle that interested them.]] That or he has [[AttentionDeficitOohShiny ADD]].

* HarsherInHindsight: The forest fire in the sequel is harder to watch come 2019-20, when Australia was plagued with bush fires across the country.

* RonTheDeathEater: Pips gets ''a lot'' of flak (as seen above) in the sequel for forgetting all about his mission to rescue baby animals from poachers in favor of hanging out with a human girl he befriended. Those same critics tend to forget that (1) Pips had never seen the human world before and was left in awe of it; (2) once he finally remembered his mission, he was deeply ashamed of his own forgetfulness and kept his focus on the mission for the rest of the movie; (3) the human girl he befriended--and, later, her grandfather as well--played a significant role in sabotaging the poachers (Bungie even managed to rescue a portion of the captured animals on her own); and (4) he helped Crysta capture the poachers and rescue the remaining animals during the climax. So, while Pips did screw up early on (for which viewers are right to criticize him), he ''did'' make up for it later.

* {{Sequelitis}}: Take a baseline of ''[=FernGully=]'', then add a significantly lower budget and cheap, sub-TV-level animation, ''then'' remove the two best-received things about the first movie (a.k.a the voicework of Tim Curry and Robin Williams), add some horrendously cheesy musical numbers, and you have a case of sequelitis with only one sequel.
** [[SarcasmMode But, it gets better!]] Sideline the heroine of the first movie for borderline cameo appearances; and for the new main character, you take a fan favorite — albeit one with little screentime or influence on the plot — and remove the character traits that endeared them to the fanbase in the first place. [[SarcasmMode Where can you go wrong with that?]]

* DemographicallyInappropriateHumour: When Hexxus is sitting above the cabin to the leveller, the screen pans down and you see the skinny driver reading a magazine. He turns it vertically and both he and the fat driver gawk at what they see.
* DracoInLeatherPants: How many fans feel about Hexxus. This is what happens when you make the villain more likable and entertaining than the rest of the cast (and have him voiced by Creator/TimCurry). So much so that it's resulted in an accidental BrokenAesop; Hexxus is easily taken as cooler than most of the other characters he actually makes you root against the protagonists, and "Toxic Love" can make pollution seem so awesome it's probably responsible for spawning a group of future anti-environmentalists in that generation.
* EnsembleDarkHorse: Pips has a large number of fanart dedicated to him -- impressive for barely 10 minutes of film. This can be chalked up to his clear affection for Crysta (bonus points for seemingly not being returned, or not nearly as strongly), his [[HoYay rivalry with Zak]], playing the pan flute, and subtle but strong character arc.

* CompleteMonster: [[DestroyerDeity Hexxus]] stands [[VileVillainSaccharineShow in contrast to such a lighthearted setting]]. In the past, Hexxus' emerging caused a volcano in the vicinity of Mount Warning to erupt and destroy anything it touched, reportedly killing many people and possibly other lives in [=FernGully=]; this would also cause a majority of the humans to flee in terror and never return. Hexxus was finally [[SealedEvilInACan defeated]] by the fairy priestess Magi Lune, but is released during the events of the film and manipulates the humans running a logging machine into heading towards [=FernGully=] so he can get revenge on the fairies for his imprisonment. For the most part, he would only swat away those who tried to stop him, but Hexxus plans to [[OmnicidalManiac pollute the entire world and effectively destroy it]], an act that could end up killing millions in the process so he can rule over the world as a PollutedWasteland.

** [[SarcasmMode But, it gets better!]] Sideline the heroine of the first movie for borderline cameo appearances; and for the new main character, you take a fan favorite — albeit one with little screentime or influence on the plot — and remove the character traits that endeared them to the fanbase in the first place to make for an idiot to drive an IdiotPlot. [[SarcasmMode Where can you go wrong with that?]]

Trope has been declared Flame Bait.

* IdiotPlot: The sequel. There's always something distracting the main characters from their goal (other than Batty, who ironically enough, is the OnlySaneMan).

Tastes Like Diabetes is no longer a trope. Moving examples to other tropes when applicable.

* EvilIsCool: Hexxus is one of, if not ''the'' most memorable aspect of the film thanks to his NightmareFuel-inducing design and a terrifyingly charismatic performance by Tim Curry. Many viewers have joked that the film's {{Anvilicious}} environment-protection message fell flat mainly because Hexxus was so damn entertaining that they ''wanted'' him to win against the considerably more plain and [[TastesLikeDiabetes overly-sweet]] protagonists.
