** Though both versions recieve regular airplay in the UK, the Pet Shop Boys' cover of "Always On My Mind" is definitely more a messy situation. B.J. Thomas was the first to record it, but it didn't get released for another 25 years. Gwen [=McCrae=] released it first, but Brenda Lee recorded it before her and released it shortly after. Elvis had the first hit version in 1972 (though it was a bigger hit in Britain than the US). Music/WillieNelson's version became a major crossover hit in the US in 1982. 5 years after that, Music/PetShopBoys had a huge worldwide hit with it. These days, Nelson's is the most popular than version in North America, with the Elvis take mainly being a fan favorite. In the UK, Elvis' original.rendition still gets regular airplay but the Pet Shop Boys version is much more popular.

* SeinfeldIsUnfunny: Elvis' hip-swiveling and rock-star sneer aren't nearly as "bad boy" now as they were in TheFifties. In fact, compared to what some pop stars in the 2010s get away with now, Elvis' performances, which were once infamously censored on Series/TheEdSullivanShow, look almost quaint. What's more, the image of Elvis now, for a lot of people, is the latter-day image of an out-of-shape Elvis in the white Vegas jumpsuit.
* SignatureSong: A few candidates here, actually! "Heartbreak Hotel," "Jailhouse Rock," "Hound Dog" and "Blue Suede Shoes."
** For latter-day Elvis, it's "Suspicious Minds" or "Burning Love."

* MagnumOpus: His most historically important album is Elvis Presley (1956), though the original tracklist isn't a good indication of his best work. Re-releases have add more of his hit singles from this time period, making the CD that is available nowadays much, much better. Other albums that are highly regarded among fans and critics are Music/TheSunSessions, for a good feel of Elvis' early appeal and Elvis NBC TV Special and Music/FromElvisInMemphis, as the last good albums of his career.

** "Blue Suede Shoes" is another one; it was actually a big hit for Music/CarlPerkins before Elvis' own version was successful.
** Presley was also late to the party in recording "Shake Rattle and Roll"; his version actually combines elements of the previous hit versions by Joe Turner and Bill Haley (Turner's lyrics, Haley's arrangement).

* FandomRivalry: With Music/TheBeatles. The fact that they had their artistic zenith which helped transform popular music in the late 1960's while Elvis was going his DorkAge draws a lot of unfavorable comparisons. The fact that Elvis then tried to get US President UsefulNotes/RichardNixon to ban the band from the USA, seemingly out of sheer jealousy, even as he regularly covered their songs in his concerts also embitters fans.

** "Heartbreak Hotel". His first Number One.
** "Love Me Tender"
** "All Shook Up"
** "Hound Dog"
** "Jailhouse Rock". The dance scene for it from the film is one of the most recognizable musical numbers from any of Elvis' movies.
** "Viva Las Vegas". Catchy theme song for what the fans consider Elvis' best movie.
** Elvis' "Comeback" Special.
** "A Little Less Conversation." Particularly the remix by Junkie XL which became a worldwide hit in 2003, meaning Elvis had a hit song 26 years after he died. Such is the power of the King.

* BileFascination: His album Music/HavingFunWithElvisOnStage has often been called one of the worst records in existence. The record, despite his title, is basically nothing but Elvis bantering with an audience on stage. There are no songs present. To make matters even worse: the comments themselves aren't even funny, because all context is lost. Still, it has attracted a lot of curious listeners who favor SoBadItsGood records.
