* MemeticLoser: [=ShineGreymon=], or at least the [=GeoGrey=] Sword he wields, mostly due to the fact that after the first fight it debuts in, the weapon is borderline ''useless'', usually getting knocked away or being destroyed.

** This wouldn't be [[Anime/DigimonAdventureLastEvolutionKizuna the last time]] a beyond Mega level Agumon would pierce through a barrier of a threat beyond a Royal Knight and give their partner the chance to leap off them to get to the foe.

* LoveToHate: Fans sometimes praise the series for having a villain who is genuinely despicable and hateful, not least of all because watching him get his just desserts is so satisfying.

* AuthorsSavingThrow:
** Previous series (with the exception of ''Anime/DigimonTamers''), received some flak for TheHero and TheLancer [[ProtagonistPowerUpPrivileges being the only ones able to reach Mega level]], which made the rest of the team be OvershadowedByAwesome. Not only does ''Data Squad'' have all the main quartet reach Mega Level, all of them also get acces to Burst Mode, which was seen by many as an improvement and one of the better aspects of the season.
** Yoshi's inferiority complex, which explained away her FauxActionGirl status and allowed her to get better at contributing to situations on her own terms.
** One of the biggest complaints of ''Frontier'' was [[DiscardAndDraw the humans being able to fight on their own came at the cost of having no partner Digimon]], abandoning the {{Mon}} concept that is the foundation of the franchise. In here, both humans and Digimon partners are equals in terms of contributing to the fights... only for arguments to flare up again when only [[TheHero Marcus]] did any actual fighting while the other three humans barely got their hands dirty.

** The main characters' Digimons who can evolve to Mega-level are color-coded in orange, blue, pink, purple, and red; the same color as those of the main characters of Anime/DokiDokiPrecure. Only with the color for TheHeroine and TheChick switched. It doesn't help that both series are written by the same person, Ryota Yamaguchi. And it doesn't help that both series have a TagAlongKid character who is voiced by Creator/RieKugimiya, either.

** Yoshino. Sweet mercy, Yoshino. People either hate her for having a DullSurprise (Japanese version only), being [[FauxActionGirl useless]] [[EarlyInstallmentWeirdness early on]], or [[OutOfFocus pointless to the overall story]], while others see her as being as badass and necessary to the team as the guys, and appreciate that she's the second female lead after Rika to have her Digimon evolve all the way to the Mega level. Some also found her too whiny while others think this makes her more relatable than super strong Marcus and super genius Thomas, especially since these two demand the audiences' attention.

* MemeticBadass: Masaru. As the fandom put it, "MOTHERFUCKER PUNCHES MEGA-LEVEL DIGIMONS IN THE FACE".

** The above-mentioned "MOTHERFUCKER PUNCHES MEGA-LEVEL DIGIMONS IN THE FACE" will always be mentioned whenever someone talks about Masaru.

* IdiotPlot: Hashiba gives Kurata his support despite working with Satsuma and Yushima, who can both confirm that the man has open issues with authority, questionable mental stability and was responsible for compromising the original rescue mission in the Digital World. ''This was how the rest of the plot came about in the first place.'' The whole Japanese Government takes this beyond reason by handing control of the entire military to Kurata, even after he had committed an open act of terrorism by personally bombing DATS headquarters. Granted, the bombing could have been covered up by Kurata but the other points still stand.

* CompleteMonster: [[BigBad Akihiro Kurata]] is a MadScientist and one of the [[HumansAreTheRealMonsters single most despicable human beings]] to appear in the franchise. Planning on [[FinalSolution committing genocide on Digimon]]--due to nothing more than a petty grudge--while conquering the world, Kurata created the Gizumon that would kill Digimon and stop their natural reincarnation cycle, which he first unleashed upon a noble Digimon who had been a surrogate father to the boy Ikuto. Kurata's reaction to Ikuto sobbing over his father's loss was cruel, hysterical laughter. Kurata then created a weapon to kill thousands of Digimon in a single blast and blackmailed one of the humans into working for him by threatening to murder his [[IllGirl sick sister]], before experimenting on said sister. Kurata's hatred extended to awakening a monstrous demon and attempting to merge with it to obliterate everything he saw as an enemy.

** Masaru's Agumon is known as "Agumon Burst Mode", if only because Bandai and Toei have said pretty much nothing at all about this form since its debut over a decade ago in the finale of ''Savers''.

** Many returning Digimon who fared less well in ''Savers'' than in previous series got this reaction. Piyomon/Biyomon arguably has it the worst, not least of all because the director made him male, subjected him to TheWorfEffect, and made him much larger. Had he been another species, the fans would probably have viewed him as TheWoobie.

* UnfortunateCharacterDesign: The ''Savers'' redesign of Yatagaramon suffers from this. He has a white mane that really stands out thanks to his mostly black and purple design. Said mane is braided into a single rope that dangles freely with a bell to each side of it. Guess we should call the ''Savers'' version the four legged crow.
* VindicatedByHistory: While not exactly disliked on its first airing, there were many that were put off by how different ''Savers'' was at the time, especially considering its main characters. Over time though, many appreciate the directions made with ''Savers'' allowing the series to stand out and have its own identity.

* FoeYay:
** At least in the original, Lalamon gets a little too touchy when Ivan says he will become Yoshino's boyfriend. Then again, it's [[HandWave hand waved]] as Lalamon playing along Ivan as an excuse to distract him from commanding the Gizumon, but she does get some suggestive lines like "Don't worry, I won't hand you over that easily".
** Then there's Touma's battle with Nanami. Touma seems to really ignore the half-naked Nanamis in favour of the powers even he cannot calculate (read: Masaru). As much as he doesn't get over being ignored because [[MessianicArchetype Masaru is today's designated saviour]], that particular scene fired up the [[SlapSlapKiss bipolar sensors]].

* {{Narm}}:
** In the dub, King Drasil has an appropriately badass male voice for what is essentially a giant supercomputer. Then Marcus is able to damage him...and out comes a regular female computer voice, complete with it going "Beep beep boop bop" before it actually starts speaking.
** It's hard to take Keenan seriously whenever he spouts RousingSpeech because of his [[YouNoTakeCandle speech pattern]].
** Episode 37. Was it necessary to shift the focus on the girls (and Keenan) for every two scenes in order to emphasize their "assets"?

** Yggdrasil. Some people reviled him for his KillAllHumans plan, the fact that most of what he tries to do [[ItsBeenDone has been done before]] by [[Anime/DigimonTamers Zhuqiaomon]], [[Anime/DigimonFrontier Lucemon]], and even Merukimon and Saberleomon in this very series, and just being a rather forced FinalBoss, while others appreciate him for being an AntiVillain who, unlike some other versions of Yggdrasil, actually has an understandable reason for hating humanity (namely a human attempting genocide on his subjects completely unprovoked) and is an 'us or them' situation that was in no way his fault.

*** Still related to ''Franchise/PrettyCure'' franchise: according to post-series commentary, Miki and Megumi were created to invoke the images of [[Anime/FutariWaPrettyCure "ink" and "snow"]] [[note]]Nagisa and Honoka's surnames roughly translate to "beautiful ink" and "snow castle"[[/note]]. Years later, there are Cures named [[Anime/FreshPrettyCure "Miki"]] and [[Anime/HappinessChargePrettyCure "Megumi"]].

*** That same arc only begins because [[spoiler: Yggdrasil/King Drasil is convinced that humankind pose a disruption to the order of the Digital World and danger to all Digimon, but when talking to Craniamon about it, he only cites events that were almost entirely the fault of Kurata, a ''single human.'' And for some reason, rather than argue that there were many good humans who worked with Digimon to counter Kurata's actions, Craniamon concedes that Drasil is right about humanity and that they all must be destroyed due to the actions of one. Craniamon had a golden opportunity to present a logical argument for why his master's desire to wage war against the human world was unfounded so all the violence could be avoided, yet [[MyMasterRightOrWrong he lets himself be swayed by the irrational argument of his master instead.]]]]

* UncannyValley: [[MonsterOfTheWeek Keramon]]. At least the Slenderman doesn't have a face.

* GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff: Masaru/Marcus is surprisingly popular for being one of the most unique Digimon main characters in the history of the franchise. Mostly due to his MemeticBadass status and actually contributing to fights instead of being a walking evolution battery unlike other human heroes.

** Unlike his ''Anime/DigimonAdventure'' counterpart, Piyomon's Champion stage here is Aquilamon from its sequel. [[spoiler:Flash forward to ''Anime/DigimonXrosWarsTheYoungHuntersLeapingThroughTime'': Hawkmon/Aquilamon's partner Miyako shows up with Ikuto, who is an OfficialCouple with Piyomon's partner.]]

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: Only Masaru was able to ''actually'' fight Digimon. The others still fought conventionally like in ''Adventure''. It would have been interesting to see how the others channelled their Digisoul.
