* HilariousInHindsight: There's a brief mention of someone with the last name Darabont, when Frank Darabont would become one of King's own favorite adapters of his work.
** Also, similar to the siren example above, when the four boys reach the train trestle, Adult Gordie muses that none of them even thought about crawling over it because the movies had taught them that "Only Losers Crawl." Come the film adaptation, ButtMonkey Vern is crawling the length of the bridge and almost gets himself and Gordie killed because of it.
* TearJerker: Adult Gordie's entire passage about his yearning to go back to the woods to search for Ray Brower's missing blueberry pot.
** It also counts as in-universe FridgeHorror. Over the years, Gordie has come to realize that [[NothingIsScarier nobody has any good idea]] what ''really'' happened to Ray Brower... and no one ever will.

* IdiotBall:
** Arguably carried by Weiskopf, the Israeli "special operative." By visiting Dussander in the hospital ''before'' Dussander is exposed as an ex-SS officer, he alerts the old man that his identity is about to be exposed; he'll be brought to Israel, tried and probably executed. Yet Weiskopf leaves Dussander alone, with no one to watch him to make sure he doesn't try to do [[spoiler:what he ultimately does.]] So it's really Weiskopf's fault that the Israelis are delivered [[spoiler:a corpse instead of a defendant.]] Of course, Weiskopf had no way of knowing what Dussander was going to do, but he ''must'' have known what he ''could'' do if he wasn't being watched.
** Mind you, it's possible DrivenToSuicide wasn't something he was worried about. Either way, Dussander's life as a free man is over.

* HilariousInHindsight: For a dark version of hilarious, but think: [[Manga/DeathNote a young intelligent boy epitomizing the ideal of his country gets corrupted by literature, becomes a huge sociopath, has mass murder fantasies, continues to project an air of normalcy, and has a secret monster friend who is also a corrupting influence]].

* CompleteMonster: [[TeensAreMonsters Todd Bowden]] is a budding psychopath obsessed with the war crimes committed by the Nazis in UsefulNotes/WorldWarII, and as such, is overjoyed when he learns his [[NaziGrandpa elderly neighbor]], Arthur Denker, is in fact Kurt Dussander, a former Nazi commander in hiding. Blackmailing Dussander into regaling him with tales of his atrocities, Todd slowly becomes aroused at the very thought of the crimes Dussander committed, even fantasizing about raping Jewish women while they scream in terror. Beginning to show his sadistic tendencies by [[BadPeopleAbuseAnimals cruelly crushing a bird to death]], Todd begins [[SerialKiller butchering homeless people]] for his own entertainment, claiming that [[DisposableVagrant they are just subhuman trash that no one will miss]]. Regularly longing to murder his loving parents and girlfriend for minor annoyances, staying his hand only to keep out of trouble, Todd realizes he will be caught for his association with Dussander, and decides to go out with a bang, murdering his guidance counselor before heading to a highly-populated location and [[SpreeKiller opening fire]] on any random citizens in the area for five hours straight before being shot by police. Representing the evil that Dussander spent decades trying to move past, Todd Bowden was a teenager whose only pleasure in life was the suffering of others and his own well-being, and, despite being unremarkable in almost every way, stands out as one of Stephen King's youngest, but no less wicked, villains.
