* {{Fanon}}: Due to his NerdGlasses and how much he gets picked on at school, it's common in fanworks to give Ricky nerdy interests or mannerisms (i.e., being [[NoSocialSkills awkward and eccentric]], showing an interest in geeky or nerdy movies like ''Franchise/{{StarWars}}'' or ''Literature/HarryPotter'').

I've come across some fanworks that have Ricky being a Stereotypical Nerd.

* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: Plenty of fans are not happy with [[spoiler: how the 2018 ebook version of this book changed the Creeps telling Ricky that everyone at his school would be his slaves if he was their ruler to simply telling him that they would just follow him. The main argument against this is that it ruins the shock value and the impact of the ending involving Ricky becoming ruthless and taking over the school]].

Politics were just as big an issue back then, and Goosebumps did not invent fascism.

* HarsherInHindsight: The story becomes more frightening when you realize that for all intent and purpose, it's about [[ANaziByAnyOtherName a supremacist society trying to recruit a bitter, bullied young man to further their hostile takeover]]. With politics a particularly hot topic nowadays, one wonders just how relevant Stine intended this story.

I was told this was wrong

* EsotericHappyEnding: [[spoiler: Ricky [[FaceHeelTurn joins the Creeps and helps turn the entire school into his Creep slaves.]] Given how horribly everyone treated him, it's [[VillainHasAPoint pretty hard to blame him]], and it's ''definitely'' a HappyEnding from Ricky's point of view, as he gets revenge by turning his former tormenters into his slaves.]]

* UnintentionalPeriodPiece: In a number of ways.
** The lack of technology on display dates the story to the '90s.
** While still a problem in today's society, bullying is taken ''much'' more seriously today than it was when the book was published.

* ItWasHisSled: [[spoiler: Ricky ultimately decides that saving the school isn't worth it, and [[ThenLetMeBeEvil allows the Creeps to take over his school with him being their commander]]. He even lets himself morph into a Creep once it's over]]. Considering the 2015 ''Film/{{Goosebumps}}'' movie had a cameo of Ricky [[spoiler: in Creep form]] as well as multiple fan-made toys of Creeps online, including [[spoiler: Ricky himself]], its safe to say everyone knew how this story ends already.

Splitting "Moments" tropes into their own pages.

* SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments: The Creeps' loyalty to their "Commander" seems surprisingly genuine, even apologizing to Ricky for having bullied him before learning the "truth". They even give him the final push to join them by encouraging him to take revenge on the students who are making fun of him.
* SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome: Ricky is forced to put transformation seeds into a batch of chocolate chip cookies so the Creeps (a group of lizard aliens who first met Ricky over the phone) can turn all the kids into one of them. Ricky tries to stop this from happening, but, upon learning that anyone who eats the transformation-seeded cookies will become mindless slaves to Ricky and the Creeps, Ricky (who's been the school ButtMonkey through most of the book) decides to give cookies to everyone, with the knowledge that those who tormented him before will be brainwashed into following his orders. A revenge fantasy (that doesn't involve guns) for the bullied and oppressed at school if there ever was one.
