** After watching ''Twisted Pair'', the boys express excitement for the sequel and talk about all the practical locations they want to see Breen film in. However, when they finally do get around to watching ''Tortured Crossing'', they find it extremely disappointing. Creator/NeilBreen took his obsession with compositing himself onto stock images to the max, and one of their major complaints was that it had virtually no location filming and it seemed like Breen was just getting lazy and apathetic.

We discussed this on the Hindsight Cleanup thread. Police brutality has always been a problem, long before 2020, and this entry seemingly treats it as a new thing.

Critical Research Failure is a disambiguation page

* CriticalResearchFailure
** A mild case, but the Crew is astounded at Robert Ginty's inability to emote, basically mumbling all of his lines and having zero charisma in ''The Exterminator 2''. Mike Stoklasa was not in the discussion group afterwards, or he might have brought up ''Film/WarriorOfTheLostWorld''.
** When ''Film/SantaClaus1959'' and especially ''Film/SpaceMutiny'' were reviewed on the show, a lot of people in the comment section were surprised that the ''[[Series/MysteryScienceTheater3000 MST3K]]'' episodes featuring them weren't brought up. The crew did note ''Film/FutureWar'' was on ''[=MST3K=]'' but they didn't see that episode.
** The crew also admitted they didn't know anything about ''Film/{{Xtro}}'' save for the box cover. If they wanted a ''bad'' movie to check out, both of TheNineties sequels, ''Xtro 2'' and ''Xtro 3'', would have sufficed, especially both are ''Xtro'' InNameOnly.
** A minor one, but while reviewing ''How to Become a Teenage Ninja'', the crew wonders why they didn't hire a real martial expert or a Japanese man for the video and, while Rich theorizes he might be one, he is quickly shot down by Mike and Jay. The person in the video is Bryan Genesse, a genuine UsefulNotes/BrazilianJiuJitsu black belt and international medallist. He also acted in several action movies in the 80s and 90s, which makes it a bit surprising that they didn't recognize him. (It didn't excuse him from adopting a strange pseudo-Asian accent, however.)
** The guys didn't recognize Russ Meyer regular Kitten Natividad in ''The Tomb'' as the stripper.
** The crew also didn't know anything about Cynthia Rothrock, who holds ''six'' black belts and was a five time World Karate Champion in Forms and Weapons. She was a major Hong Kong action star in TheEighties, and while being female did affect her being an action star in the US, it was mostly due to the HK action films still being very niche when she was at her height.
** In ''Plinketto'' #3, they noted that Creator/RogerCorman's ''Space Raiders'' seemed to have Music/JamesHorner recycling the score from his ''Star Trek'' films. However, the music was actually lifted wholesale from Corman's previous film ''Film/BattleBeyondTheStars'', which was released two years before ''Film/StarTrekIITheWrathOfKhan'', so ''Khan'' actually recycled music from ''Battle''. (Corman usually recycled all of his own assets to make money twice for the same stuff, such as filming an entirely new movie on the same set of another film he was commissioned to do.)
** While discussing ''Night of the Lepus'', noted ''Star Trek'' aficionado Mike Stoklasa--who has [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=reApQlk5JiA a (fan-made) half-hour supercut of every time he's compared the franchise to something they're reviewing]]--confuses the plots of "[[Recap/StarTrekS1E15ShoreLeave Shore Leave]]" (while showing a clip of "[[Recap/StarTrekTheAnimatedSeriesS1E9OnceUponAPlanet Once Upon a Planet]]" from ''WesternAnimation/StarTrekTheAnimatedSeries'') and "[[Recap/StarTrekS1E24ThisSideOfParadise This Side of Paradise]]".
** No one on the panel for ''Black Spine #1'' can figure out why Don Beveridge constantly brings up bagels during his presentation to Dunkin Donuts employees. Anyone who's stepped foot in a Dunkin Donuts would be able to tell you that bagels are just as much a cornerstone of the brand as coffee and, well, [[ExactlyWhatItSaysonTheTin doughnuts]].
** The guys have no idea why there's so much stress on pregnant women avoiding kitty litter, not understanding that toxoplasmosis will give serious birth defects to children, even inhaled (which can happen when kitty litter is sifted.)

No real life examples apply for Base Breaking Character and The Scrappy.

** Josh is either a welcomed contrast to the other hosts for his abundant knowledge of film and de facto StraightMan status or a pretentious StopHavingFunGuy for much of the same reasons.
** Jim is either liked for being a sardonic dry-witted DeadpanSnarker, or disliked for being ''too'' dry and monotone compared to the usual cast. The fact that he's become part of a package deal with the much more universally-liked Colin doesn't help.

* TheScrappy:
** Much like in real life, Creator/MaxLandis is a very disliked man. The famously pretentious writer was thankfully only in one episode, but in that appearance, many thought Landis came across as an annoying and cringeworthy {{Keet}} whose extremely loud and overly hyper personality didn’t mesh well with the rest of the gang at all, not to mention many complaints of him trying to hog the spotlight. In fact, quite a few fans noted it looked like the crew themselves were barely holding back their annoyance, with Jay in particular seeming thoroughly irritated and uncomfortable around Max. Adding onto all of this, Landis's detractors were especially upset that his appearance was in the episode with ''Double Down'', which is regarded as one of the "best" films ever on the show. This means that you couldn't watch this highly popular point in the series without also enduring him throughout. With all that being said, [[BaseBreakingCharacter there were a few fans who admitted to liking him]]. And then he was outed as a serial sexual harasser and all around misogynistic abuser, ruining any kind of goodwill he built up in the fanbase. After this, the group themselves have severed all ties to him, delisting all of his appearances on the channel, and later making a thinly veiled insult against him. The silver lining was that he introduced Creator/MacaulayCulkin to [=RedLetterMedia=], and Mac has meshed well with the crew and become a fan favorite on his own.
** Deundra T. Brown also applies. The director, writer, and star of ''Diamond Cobra vs the White Fox'' has repeatedly saw to it that her horrifically incompetent film's spotlight episode was removed from the channel [[SmallNameBigEgo due to her frail ego]]. The crew themselves have only commented on the matter once, but the fans very much hate the narcissistic, multi-(un)talented Miss Brown for this. Luckily, several viewers saved the episode, sharing with others and posting it elsewhere. Still, Deundra's efforts have ensured that if you want to watch this episode, you have to go through a few annoying detours to do so.
