* MagnificentBastard: [[GoodIsNotNice Stan Hurley]] runs Orion, a CIA [[ProfessionalKiller assassination squad]] in charge of eliminating the world's most notorious terrorists with absolute discretion. Hurley has his cadets endure brutally intense training before sending them out to kill their target, while always remind them that no one will rescue them should they get caught. Through Hurley's unscrupulous methods, such as threatening to [[ManOnFire burn a nuclear physicist alive]], he learns that his former pupil, Ghost, is working with the Iranian Government to develop a nuclear bomb and that an Iranian [[TheMole mole]], has infiltrated Orion. When Ghost kidnaps Hurley and tortures him for abandoning him, Hurley calls out Ghost on his excuses justifying that Ghost's reckless behavior nearly got his unit kill, while remaining [[DefiantCaptive fearlessly defiant]] throughout the session; Hurley would exploit his torture session to uncover Ghost true plan to use the Iranian bomb to destroy the U.S Navy's Sixth Fleet, and tells his agent, Mitch Rapp, about it, allowing Mitch to kill Ghost and foil his plans.

* CompleteMonster: [[BigBad Ghost]] was once an assassin for Stan Hurley's black ops unit Orion before his reckless behavior nearly got the unit killed, forcing Hurley to abandon him. Becoming a psychopathic mercenary and terrorist years later, he would retrieve plutonium from a group of {{arms dealer}}s before killing the group, as well as [[CopKiller the police]] on his tail. When learning of Orion tailing him at a restaurant, Ghost kills one agent and murders countless of innocent people before making his escape. He would later murder Hurley's contact before kidnapping him; he would then torture Hurley for abandoning him. When Ghost's Iranian allies gives the components needed to make his nuclear bomb, Ghost [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness kills them]] and reveals his plans to [[NukeEm use the bomb]] to destroy the U.S. Navy's Sixth Fleet and kill thousands of people just to spite Hurley.

avoiding civilian casualities sounds pretty heroic to me. More importantly, the example fails to justify itself with the dissoance at the center of the trope.

* DesignatedHero: Pretty much the only thing the protagonists have going for them is that they try to avoid civilian casualties. Apart from that they're all extremely dislikable, revenge-driven assholes, with only the female characters being slightly more sympathetic.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Hurley is pretty much everybody's favorite character, due to Michael Keaton's memorable acting job.
* JustHereForGodzilla: The nuclear detonation that every trailer made sure to milk for all that it's worth was apparently the main reason for many to watch the film.
** Failing that, the heavy featuring of Michael Keaton as a BadassGrandpa managed to somewhat mitigate the poorer aspects of the film.

Unfortunate Implications require citations.

* SpecialEffectsFailure: The CGI depictions of military technology such as helicopters and Naval vessels are...tenuous at best.

* UnfortunateImplications: Due to the plot of the movie mostly hinging on [[spoiler:The Iranian government wanting to build a nuclear bomb to blow up Israel, a claim that Israel has been making unsuccessfully about Iran for the past forty years]] the movie comes off as enforcing the stereotype that all Iranians are evil rotten terrorists, given that all of the Iranian characters present in the film are eventually revealed to be terrorists, [[spoiler:even the government officials, which has the even worse connotation of claiming that the ENTIRE GOVERNMENT is against the USA and Israel]]. It isn't helped by bringing up almost Nazi-level comparisons since at one point a character tells them that they can "Kill all the Jews they want" which is immediately followed by the Iranian character smiling happily and asking if [[spoiler:Ghost]] practices prayer.
** Goes even further by having said [[spoiler:government officials]] bring up the US foreign invasions into their region of the middle east only as a way to make them appear like slimy scumbags dodging suspicion, ignoring the fact that the claims they make are completely valid statements that the US agents don't even attempt to deny or dispute. [[spoiler:The only Iranian character who actually tries to help the USA is immediately killed by the others, implying that the government of Iran won't allow any kind of positive international relations.]]
** On a more general level, the entire Muslim community is cast in a very negative life, by having the Terrorists test applicants using questions about religion and the prophet, despite the prophet advocating for the same level of pacifism as Jesus Christ did, and having another character, when imitating the terrorists, say that he wants to "wash his hands in the blood of the infidels" and then having the other characters treat this like a very good sign. All Muslim characters in the movie, without exception are either terrorists or trying to become terrorists, and every mention of prayer or religious ceremonies is tied to acts of terrorism or violence.
