* ValuesDissonance: Of the SlapstickKnowsNoGender variety. Much of the humor of ''Aho Girl'' derives from the fact that it is [[GenderInvertedTrope Role-Reversal]] of the typical Anime Comedy setup. Yoshiko, the female protagonist and LovableSexManiac IdiotHero here, is frequently the victim of abuse from her {{Tsundere}} male love-interest, Akkun. The fact that the series is playing with anime tropes, especially in the West, where [[AllAbusersAreMale Male on Female abuse is viewed in a harsher light]], leads to this.

** Yoshiko is so impressed by the Disciplinary Committee President's [[BuxomIsBetter chest]] when they first meet, that she then excitedly tries to touch her and compare, even justifying it with the claim of "this is for science!"
*** She's also very affectionate towards Sayaka. One of the monthly chapters even has her kiss Sakaya on the lips.

* CatharsisFactor: For anime fans sick of shows rife with DoubleStandardAbuseFemaleOnMale, this anime is for you.
* DiagnosedByTheAudience: Yoshiko is so stupid that it's hard to say what ''isn't'' wrong with her. Her hyperactivity and difficulty paying attention are comparable to ADHD, but the story itself never goes into further detail.

** [[NiceGirl Sayaka Sumino]] is the one of the only characters in the series who isn't a {{Jerkass}}, which obviously gives her a lot of sympathy. As she's the OnlySaneMan stuck in the middle of [[SurroundedByIdiots a merry band of violent, crazy, idiotic people]], it only becomes easier to pity her because of that.

** Yoshiko being a fan of the in-universe ''[[Franchise/PrettyCure PreChure]]'' magical girl anime gets even better when her [[Creator/AoiYuuki voice actress]]—reportedly a huge fan of the real life version—was cast as the lead of the 2020 installment ''[[Anime/HealinGoodPrettyCure Healin’ Good♡Pretty Cure]]''.

* AccidentalAesop: The comment of the children about the importance of education was obviously not meant for some message and was simply played for laughs. Nevertheless, it is difficult to disagree with them that education is an important base in life, and this is exactly what Yoshiko lacks in the first place.

* EnsembleDarkhorse: The gyaru girls are gaining popularity too, thanks to all of them being unexpectedly cute and pure.

* DesignatedHero: Though not villainous or malicious, but let's face it: It's pretty hard to root to such an ''extremely stupid'' titular character that annoys someone for many, ''many'' years.

* TheScrappy: Again, Yoshiko is a laughable manner.

When he failed for the first time, he decided to use what he learned from his childhood to understand the game. The result, [[spoiler: first place nationwide & collected all the rare cards he could get.]]

** Yoshiko is so impressed by the Disciplinary Committee President's [[BuxomIsBetter chest]] when they first meet, that she then excitedly tries to touch her and compare, even justifying it with the claim of "this is for science!"

* FanPreferredCouple: Some fans ship Akkun × Sayaka because out of all the girls in his life, she's the sanest and has sometimes tried to help him out by attempting to moderate either Yoshiko or the President. She's also the only character aside from Dog that he actually wants to be friends with. It helps that in the later chapters Akkun sometimes shows concern when Sayaka is pushed to her limits by either Yoshiko or the President and even does things to help her out from time to time.

* ParentalAbuse: While usually played for laughs, and while she isn't doing so maliciously, Yoshiko's mother is still ultimately pretty horrible to her. She doesn't just wholeheartedly believe (and is quite vocal about the fact, including in the face of said child) that her daughter is a subhuman moron, she's ''internalized'' said believe to the extent that she will employ any violent, underhanded or criminal methods in order to get her hitched to a guy - not for her daughter's own good but so that ''she won't have to suffer through old age with a worthless provider''. Her plans generally revolve around getting Yoshiko (who essentially has the mind of a preschooler) to sleep with a guy so that she could force him to marry her ShotgunWedding style. If the situation was presented with even the slightest amount of realism (i.e. the parent of a mentally handicapped child trying to manipulate her into having sex she doesn't have the capacity to consent to so that she could force someone to marry her and become a son-in-law), it would've been absolutely ''horrifying''.

* TheScrappy:
** Yoshiko's mom is one for some, because of her {{Jerkass}} personality, especially since she apparently [[DoubleStandardRapeFemaleOnMale raped Yoshiko's father]]. Then there's her attempt to ''drug'' Akkun, have Yoshiko force herself on him, [[BabyTrap and get herself pregnant to ensure that they get married]], all as part of her "retirement plan."
** Yoshiko herself also has quite a large number of haters, who openly enjoy the many scenes of [[SlapstickKnowsNoGender her getting beaten]].

** You have to feel for Akkun, who's basically stuck being [[LethallyStupid Yoshiko]]'s caretaker and has pretty much not had anything resembling a normal life or friendship because of it -- but as Sayaka points out, part of that's his own fault, as he's such a bitter, pessimistic, and violent person that nobody smarter than Yoshiko would ever want anything to do with him.

* FanPreferredCouple: Some fans ship Akkun x Sayaka because out of all the girls in his life, she's the sanest and has sometimes tried to help him out by attempting to moderate either Yoshiko or the President. She's also the only character aside from Dog that he actually wants to be friends with. ** It seems that Sayaka Sumino is the only character in the series who isn't a {{Jerkass}}, which obviously gives her a lot of fans. As she's stuck in the middle of [[WithFriendsLikeThese a merry band of violent, crazy, idiotic people]], it only becomes easier to pity her because of that.

* TheWoobie: Unlike Yoshiko, who seems completely unaware of the misery she causes others, Ruri is painfully aware of her own shortcomings. Also unlike Yoshiko, Ruri desperately tries to actually improve herself, but none of her work ever pays off. It's saddening to think that she doesn't have anything she's good despite all her efforts at whereas the easygoing Yoshiko is good at basically everything except studying.
