** Muddlemore's CowardlyLion nature and backstory -- rather than stand and fight, a reluctant warrior hid when danger approached and eventually starved there -- bears a lot of similarity to the 1944 film adaptation of ''Literature/TheCantervilleGhost'', except that Mudsy died by accident rather than deliberate neglect.

Added DiffLines:

* OffModel: This was Hanna-Barbera's first series to be animated in Australia, and thus the animation quality is a noticeable step down compared to prior and concurrent shows of the time, with a bunch of sloppy moments and off-looking designs. The editing is also pretty sloppy as well.

Added DiffLines:

* RecycledSoundtrack: Much of the background music is recycled from ''WesternAnimation/ScoobyDooWhereAreYou'' and ''WesternAnimation/JosieAndThePussycats'', and half the time [[SoundtrackDissonance the music cues aren't used properly!]] (A common example is having the "chase" theme from the Black Knight episode playing under a normal conversation scene.) There's also a frequent-recurring music cue lifted from ''WesternAnimation/JonnyQuest''.

Added DiffLines:

* StockSoundEffects: Being Hanna-Barbera's first InternationalCoProduction with Australia, some unusual sound effects are heard that are noticeably different from a typical Hanna-Barbera cartoon of the time, and some familiar sounds [[SoundDefect get used improperly]] as well.

A Creator/HannaBarbera series [[FollowTheLeader similar to]] their earlier success ''WesternAnimation/ScoobyDooWhereAreYou'', ''The Funky Phantom'' featured three teenagers — Skip, April and Augie — and their dog, Elmo. While trying to get out of a storm, they entered an old house where the longcase clock was wrong. Upon setting the clock to midnight, they released two ghosts: Jonathan Wellington "Mudsy" Muddlemore, a ghost from UsefulNotes/TheAmericanRevolution, and his cat, Boo. The two of them allegedly hid inside the clock from the British during the Revolutionary War, but then couldn't get out and eventually died inside. Ever since being freed by their new friends, Mudsy and Boo have accompanied them on many mysteries, always giving an invisible helping hand.

April, Skip and Augie each respectively have times of leadership, being smart, cowardice and being the one needing help.
