The gang is called in to help Madelyn Dinkley, Velma’s sister, who attends a college for magicians at the Whirlen Merlin Magic Academy. They meet the owner of the castle and his brother, Whirlen Merlin and Marlen Merlin, as well as Whirlen’s assistant, Crystal, who catches Fred’s eye. Whirlen informs the gang that there have been multiple sightings of a gryphon, scaring off most of the students and staff.
Later that evening, Madelyn takes Shaggy on a romantic walk through the forest, due to her having a crush on him for some time. They eventually come to a sundial, but are interrupted by the gryphon, who chases them back to the castle. The next day, the rest of the students leave, and a powerful ice cream salesman, Calvin Curdles, attempts to buy the castle off Whirlen, to no avail.
Meanwhile, Daphne is trying to turn into a more graceful woman to impress Fred, who has fallen head over heels for Crystal. However, Daphne's bumbling causes her to stumble upon a secret passageway, which she and Velma explore. They discover that the castle maid, Alma Rumblebuns, used to date Calvin Curdles. Meanwhile, Scooby and Shaggy discover the special effects room of the castle, but when Ms. Rumblebuns tries kicking them out, they knock over some things, creating fog. It is revealed that the room is Marlen’s private laboratory, where he creates holograms and puppets for Whirlen’s show.
The mystery starts heating up when Madelyn finds a book about an ancient staff that O’Flannery, founder of the castle, used to control the castle. The book says the staff was buried in O’Flannery’s grave, so they investigate. However, the grave is guarded by a banshee, which the gang encounters, but not before retrieving the staff.

!!Scooby-Doo! Abracadabra-Doo provides examples of the following Tropes:
* ArtShift: Anyone can tell that the animation has improved from the previous film, WesternAnimation/ScoobyDooAndTheSamuraiSword.
* BigDamnMovie: It was certainly a step forward for the Franchise/ScoobyDoo movies, followed by Camp Scare and Phantosaur.
* DarkerAndEdgier: Not so notable as other films, like WesternAnimation/ScoobyDooOnZombieIsland, but it’s definitely edgier than the series of cheaper animated films that started somewhere around Legend of the Vampire.
* Flanderization: Daphne’s clumsiness. Seriously! It’s worse than Shaggy’s!
* KavorkaMan: A recent example with Shaggy, for whom Madelyn has the hots.
* TheKlutz: One could say this about Daphne more than any other adaptation.
* MaleGaze: At the beginning, the movie seems focused on the girl who got attacked instead of the guy with her.
* Meganekko: Madelyn.
* NerdsAreSexy: One might say this about Madelyn.
* ShaggySearchTechnique: Used twice. First when Daphne stumbles on a secret passageway inside the castle, and secondly when Scooby accidentally figures out where the secret passageway to O’Flannery’s grave is. Never used by Shaggy.
* UpToEleven: Daphne’s clumsiness is greatly Flanderization Flanderized.
