''WebVideo/TwitchPlaysPokemon'' (TPP) is a series of social experiments that started in February 2014 in which commands representing buttons on an original Nintendo DS (up, down, left, right, A, B, X, Y, L, R, start,) and touchscreen coordinates are entered into a chat on Website/{{Twitch}}, and then translated into a game of ''Pokémon'' via an IRC bot. In short, thousands of people are fighting over a controller. Throughout its life, ''Twitch Plays Pokémon'' has spawned hilarious characters, memorable moments, and even a few religions.

As the sixth installment of the franchise, ''Twitch Plays Pokémon [=HeartGold=]'' is a return to the Johto Region, but it continues the randomization trend previously seen in ''WebVideo/TwitchPlaysPokemonFireRed''. As the original game was a remake of the ''Gold and Silver'' duology (With ''Crystal'' plot points included for good measure), expect there to be changes to the plotline.

* NoPronunciationGuide: 'aoooo' isn't hard to pronounce, but the question is: ''which way'' do you pronounce it? 'AY-ooo', 'AY-ohh', '[[VerbalTicName ah-WOO]]', 'AH-oh', or some other way?

** TheFarFuture apparently averted; Copycat stated Red gave her the Pokédoll three years ago still, meaning [=HeartGold=] takes place three years after [[WebVideo/TwitchPlaysPokemonRed Twitch Plays Pokémon Red]], rather than the far future. This also means Ao-chan and AJ's stories take place at the same time, both being three years after Red defeated Team Rocket.

The run ended at 18d 20h 33m with the defeat of a hacked-in [[WebVideo/TwitchPlaysPokemonFireRed Alice]], and the stream continued a few days later with ''[[WebVideo/TwitchPlaysPokemonBlack Twitch Plays Pokémon Black]]''.

!!Tropes found in ''Twitch Plays Pokémon [=HeartGold=]'' include:

* AlternateUniverse: If this continues the trend started in ''[=FireRed=]''.
*** Which in turn raises another question; If Alice is atop Mount Silver, though [=FireRed=] takes place in the Far Future, while Ao-chan's time period is set three years after Red, like AJ's time is, [[MindScrew why is Alice on Mount Silver, where AJ and Red should be fighting around this time?]]
*** One possible explanation is that since Alice is identified as "Pokemon Trainer Red", she may have used Red as an alias in the past. So the Red that Copycat was talking about might still be Alice.
* AscendedExtra: During the ''Crystal'' run, Burrito was pitted against a particularly nasty Xatu, which the Mob futilely tried to catch. Here, a Shiny Xatu was caught and became a primary member of Aooooo's team.
* AscendedGlitch: The emulator running the game seems to periodically have graphical glitches that replace Aoooo with an assortment of random black sprites. [[http://i0.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/000/765/681/31c.gif Needless to say, this is quickly being integrated into the lore.]]
* CallBack: Just like in WebVideo/TwitchPlaysPokemonCrystal, Red's team was modified to have A's team from WebVideo/TwitchPlaysPokemonFireRed. However, the display name is still "Red", even though those can actually be edited.
* CrisisCrossover: According to the lore, while Aooooo is trying to get to Mt. Silver and beat Bill, the former hosts have decided to team up with Aaron and Bebe in order to get rid of Bill's numerous underlings due to Bill's PSA naming and shaming them and being blackmailed respectively.
* DevelopmentGag: Aooooo is speculated to be a WildChild, similar to early interpretations of AJ back during the ''Crystal'' run.
* DivineConflict: In the battle against Karen, during the second Elite Four run, Karen sent out a Kabutops, while the Mob had a Omastar on the field. Omastar won just barely, as Kabutops succumbed to it's own Head Smash recoil.
** CainAndAbel: Implied between Lord Helix and Lord Dome. Some also compare the short battle between Helix and Dome to be like the [[Film/RevengeOfTheSith battle between Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi]].
** HeroicSacrifice: It is theorized that Lord Dome purposefully used a recoil move to defeat itself so Lord Helix could keep going. Either that, or Kabutops refused to kill Lord Helix, and defeated himself so he would not have to [[SympathyForTheHero deal the finishing blow]].
* EpicFail: [[EpicFail/TwitchplaysPokemonHeartGold Has its own page.]]
* GrandFinale: Is being billed (No pun intended) as such for the Bill saga of the series.
* HijackingCthulhu: Double subverted, Kenya the Groudon was already in the hands of a guard, which happily gives it to Aoooo as a trust to deliver mail to a friend of his. Aoooo later takes the mail away from Kenya, keeping Kenya for herself.
** So much of this after adding Bastiodon, Cranidos, and Omastar to the party.
* HistoryRepeats: Bound to happen, as it is a remake.
** DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: Guess who the Mob had to kill again this run? Lord Helix. This time taken down in Union Cave using a level 19 Trapinch.
* InterfaceSpoiler: When 'aoooo' received the egg from Prof. Elm's assistant, the display immediately revealed that it would hatch into a Smoochum with Ice Punch and Extrasensory.
* KillerRabbit: A wild Spearow whipped up sand from its body and knew Mind Reader and ''Aeroblast''.
* TheMillstone: Just like in the ''Crystal'' playthrough there are people in the Mob that want to ''deliberately'' release the strongest Mons in the party or interrupt evolutions just to make things more dramatic.
* NoPronunciationGuide: 'aoooo' isn't hard to pronounce, but the question is: ''which way'' do you pronounce it? 'AY-ooo', 'AY-ohh', '[[VerbalTicName ah-WOO]]', 'AH-oh', or some other way?
* OhCrap: Everyone collectively soiled themselves when Lance sent out ''Raikou''. It promptly swept the entire team with Uproar. And [[HopeSpot after it was defeated]] he sent out ''another'' one.
* RealityIsOutToLunch: Again, the laws of the Pokémon universe need not apply here.
* RomanticismVersusEnlightenment: Aooo and [[WebVideo/TwitchPlaysPokemonFireRed Alice]] can be seen as each representing a side of this conflict. Aooo is a WildChild [[OurWerewolvesAreDifferent werewolf]] [[LittleBitBeastly girl]] with a team consisting of ancient deities.[[note]]none of whom, unusually for Pokémon, were brought back to life by science[[/note]] Alice on the other hand is a ScienceHero who tries to make sense of the chaotic world around her, and her team is an orderly communist collective and easily the most balanced of any TPP run.
* ScrewDestiny: Even more so than in Platinum, the Mob is trying to defy what was considered fate for a Twitch Plays Pokemon run. They want a run without any releases. Careful planning, lots of mail, and a healthy dose of luck kept the dream alive.... for one week until Groudon was released and became the first of several releases.
* ShipTease: Sabrina was already shipped with Aoooo, and when they swapped Pokégear numbers and called each other for a rematch, Sabrina sent out Pidgeot who used Sweet Kiss on Aoooo's Vibrava. Sabrina's other pokémon included Lickylicky, a pokémon known for its tongue, and Bibarel, a beaver. [[DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything Yeah...]]
** Probably an example of MayDecemberRomance, as Sabrina should be in her twenties. Aoooo is [[KidHero only ten]]. Unless Ao-chan [[OlderThanTheyLook isn't ten]].
* TookALevelInBadass: At the start of the run, all 4 had was a weak Aipom that the Mob crushed within mintues. Then the randomizer kicked in and gave him a Houndoom that curb-stomped Aoooo's team. Then it activated again and kicked the Mob's ass a second time with ''[[EpicFail a Kricketot]]''.
** Numerous randomized Pokémon have been endowed with Sacred Fire, Magma Storm, Seed Flare, and other legendary signature moves, often ''with STAB''. Predictably, such Pokémon have only showed up under enemy trainers, and the mob has had horrible luck catching the wild ones.
** The modder that added Alice to the game changed one thing, given Flamesplash the attack "Sacred Fire." In Fire Red it knew Flamethrower.
* WeBuyAnything: Including one-of-a-kind [[SealedGoodInACan fossil gods]], which Aoooo sold to the Ecruteak Poké Mart.
* WhamEpisode: The Mob getting ''Groudon'' pretty much solidified the chaos that would ensue in this run.
** Subsequently, Groudon '''''getting released (by accident)'''''.
* WorldOfChaos: The Randomizer has unleashed such horrors as Jigglypuff with Dragonbreath and Spite, Riolus with Hammer Arm and a guard who uses a [[OlympusMons Groudon]] to deliver mail to his friend.
** Not to mention the world itself glitching out every once in a while.
