He was originally a more benevolent king and had a son, Prince Froggy, who he doted on, but twenty-four years ago, when they took a vacation on Yoshi's Island and Mario and Luigi were separated as babies, everything changed. Yoshi traveled the island to reunite them, but Kamek showed up, kidnapped Froggy and used him to kill the Yoshi that was carrying Mario at the time to prevent it. After the plan failed, Kamek saw Froggy as useless for his plans and threw the little prince in a volcano, burning him to ashes and killing him. Wart was unable to save his young son, witnessing everything, and after seeing his son die, he was never the same, marking the beginning of his tyranny.
