Cutlisted for being bashy; Anyone willing to remake this, make it so with being too bashy.

Throughout the series, there are ample (actually, ''[[DrinkingGame/TheClique tons]]'') of hints that the other girls are at least aware that many of their problems stem from Massie's incessant intra-group bullying: Dylan struggles to avoid being bullied over her (perceived) weight, Kristen and Claire are afraid of being labeled as "[=LBRs=]" and [[TheStarscream Alicia]] [[KlingonPromotion just wants to get Massie out of the way so she can be the new Alpha]]. Which leads to....

After moving to England and living there for a while, Massie and her family later move back to America, this time in New York. She changes her name and keeps her spoiled and self-centered personality, continuing to rule as Queen Bee.

[[WMG: Massie is a closeted LipstickLesbian]]
Massie frequently comments on how beautiful Alicia is, even commenting once how it hurt to look at her for more than a few seconds since her face was perfect. Her reasons for being with boys is more for appearance/social purposes than real attraction, and she constantly brushes them off for Claire or the other Pretty Committee members. She also gets jealous of external friendships and treats the external friends very harshly, especially Olivia Ryan, who was established to spend a lot of time with Alicia outside of Massie.

** It's important to bring up the different perspectives for those tropers who don't get into these debates on a frequent basis. It is important not to paint everyone into one side but generally this breaks down into two general sides which we'll call academic and historic here. The Academic side often believes we should champion fiction that respects the values we wish to impart and shame/ignore ones that don't. It believes in leading by example. The Historic side on the other hand believes in fair balance. Where both sides should be allowed equal distribution and people should have the independence to choose which ones are better. The academic side would tell books like The Clique series are more dangerous because they put spotlight on characters who we shouldn't glorify, and that not shaming them will allow people to follow their lead. The historic side would tell you books like The Clique series offer people a chance to see these interactions from the perspective of a different side. They'd argue having them is an important part of allowing people to learn to disagree with how the characters act instead of just being told not to do something. When you hear stuff like this on a regular basis, academics often fire back that historics are reckless and should learn certain things are okay to be left behind. Historics then fire back the academic side are just worried with freedom people may in fact choose not to agree with what they wanted to teach which threatens their authority. Don't worry though folks, people will be having these same arguments long after this was written, why? Because they've been having similar debates for centuries before this was written. Series like The Clique wasn't the first to spark these debates nor was it the last.

** To an extent yes. In modern times thanks to a bit too much academic-pandering we sometimes lose sight of the larger spectrum. If we want storytelling to be fair we have to let the pendulum swing to both sides. Having a series where the lead characters are ones you don't like isn't any kind of automatic defending their behavior, but it is a way of giving a voice to the other side. It isn't exactly "fair" you only let the good role models get all the stories, why not flip the script and let the bad ones tell the story and see how it goes? Historically speaking series like this have to reach a certain level to stay in the spotlight, they are an important counterbalance that some would rather be pushed aside to our own detriment.

[[WMG: Alicia does NOT have implants.]]
Ok hear me out! Alicia is extremely embarrassed about her chest size. She tries to downplay her chest and she hates when it's brought up, and she constantly wants to be smaller. Her parents WON'T let her get chest surgery at her age, so she's stuck with a chest she doesn't want.
