WMG pages are Spoilers Off subpages

* WordOfGod says demons are unnamed before they are first summoned and given a name - they're not even individuals before being ripped away from the Other Place the first time. Though Jonathan Stroud has expressed interest in the idea that [[spoiler:Nathaniel survived the end of ''Ptolemy's Gate'' by having his spirit dragged alongside Bartimaeus to the Other Place]]...
** [[spoiler: But that would condemn him to an eternity of slavery, should his name be discovered.]] Surely Bart isn't that cruel.
*** If any such thing happened (face it, [[spoiler: killing him just when he was turning back into Nathaniel was [[TearJerker just plain cruel]]]]), it would probably be by accident.

The [[spoiler: Old One,]] at the end of demon souls is described as an irrevocable poison placed on the earth. it appears to be the source of all demons in the universe of demon's souls, and it emanates a colorless white fog, which corresponds with the seeming nothingness within the other place, as the colorless fog swept across the land, destroying all and reducing it to nothing. in the good ending, [[spoiler: this is halted, and the world is saved.]] in the bad ending, the PC [[spoiler: Becomes a new demon, and spreads the colorless fog across all of the world, destroying it entirely, and nothing but demons live where the world used to be.]]

[[WMG: The series is set in the near future, instead of the present.]]
Bartimaeus states that ''"It's two thousand, one hundred and twenty-nine years since Ptolemy died. He was fourteen. Eight world empires have risen up and fallen away since that day, and I still carry his face. Who do you think's the lucky one?"'' A google search reveals that Ptolemy died in 47 BCE, and if my math is correct (it's probably not let's be honest), that means it would be the year 2082.
* Additionally, we know that the world has been affected somewhat by the British magicians' control over spirits, as the American revolution is just now happening.

Dewicking Not So Different as it is now a disambig.

* Magicians aren't allowed to have children to prevent dynasty drama, and are encouraged not to take long-term romantic partners (weak ones like Underwood got away with it because they're not important) because it serves as a point of weakness to political rivals. Simon's resemblance to Nathaniel, and Bartimaeus's observation of Nathaniel copying his fashions and affectations is meant to show Mandrake and Lovelace being [[NotSoDifferent not so different]].

[[WMG: Kitty’s Resilience helped her survive the Other Place.]]
Although Kitty was prematurely aged by her time in the Other Place, it sounds like Ptolemy got it much worse. It’s possible that her resilience helped protect her somewhat.
