[[WMG: Who gets sacrificed is based on who would be willing to participate in the family rituals]]

Charity and Fitch were spared because Mr le Bail knew they were willing to do whatever it took to join the family. Grace and Helene’s husband had too much of a moral compass and never would have agreed to take part, so they had to go.

* Additionally, Le Bail may have intended that. Since he punishes the family for failing to kill the bride/groom by killing them all, and Le Bail seems to have VillainRespect for Grace surviving, inheriting the fortune is likely an intended outcome as a "winning price" for surviving.

* The fact that they were still willing to kill Grace after the deadline had passed in order to sustain their good fortune fits under the very definition of [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_deadly_sins#Pride pride]], which is one of the cardinal sins - some cite it as the deadliest of all and the source of the other sins.

[[WMG:Grace will ''not'' inherit the Le Domas fortune]]
...because a family as wealthy as the Le Domas family would have very complex and specific instructions for what happens to their wealth.
* Especially when the whole lineage dying in a "housefire" is a likely possibility.
** But after what Grace experienced, she will be more than happy to leave any remnants of the family in the past.

We don't learn much about Grace's backstory, but she is very competent with weapons and athletic, which would require training. Alex marrying her was, in part, because he thought on some level that she had the best chance of survival. She's still freaked by the whole situation because she's only human.

** Then there is the fact that as she drew the card, Grace gave a toast to Le Bail. Most likely she was the first one of the victims that did that.

** It's also possibly the ''only'' time they'd have killed someone without even the pretense of it being an accident (as with the maids) or a twisted form of self-defense. Helene's final attempt to kill Grace wasn't for fear that she or her kin would die if Grace survived, it was an act of pure spite.

spite. It was also a pure demonstration of being a SoreLoser, which given Mr. Le Bail's own GracefulLoser status, is something that he would very likely [[EvenEvilHasStandards frown upon and punish accordingly.]]

** Probably not. Le Bail seems to do most of this for the love of the game, and there isn't much fun in a game where the opponent refuses to play. Grace would ''absolutely'' choose the never-marry option rather than subject her husband to the hide-and-seek game, so Le Bail would choose a game for her that she would play. My guess is Keep-Away; she now has the Le Domas fortune, but the other Satanist families mentioned in the film would know that the original Le Domases are dead and try to muscle in on it. If Grace can fend off their attempts to get the money for themselves, she wins and keeps the fortune. If not, she goes back to poverty.

1) it's really not necessary to insert your own opinion on grace's attractivness 2) the alex being attracted to grace for her survival skills sounds like it's being stated as a fact in support of the argument, but that's was never implied. you could argue that it was one of the reasons he married her in spite of the fact that she might draw the hide and seek card.

Daniel's wife is pretty openly horrible and ruthless, even to the point of killing her own husband. She and Daniel are implied to have a rocky marriage, and she justifies her ruthlessness with having grown up in a difficult life. Meanwhile, Grace also grew up without much (she was shuttled around from foster home to foster home) but she's clearly good hearted and married Alex because she loved him-- and she would never have taken part in the cult. In a way, she's almost a foil to Charity (their names even both reference Christian virtues, ironic for individuals involved in a Satanic ritual). Grace mentions that Daniel keeps hitting on her while he's drunk, so he may have been attracted to her. (Really, what's not to like?) Then Daniel displays extreme confliction about saving Grace or saving his family, gives her a mercy head start at the beginning, and ultimately dies trying to save her, even at the risk of himself and his family. That might all fit in well with him secretly having had feelings for her (as well as being disgusted with the cult to begin with).
