** '''Confirmed''' with Nardole in the sense that he's an augmented HumanAlien, although the extent of his abilities is unclear.

[[WMG: Time Lords aren't ''that'' hard to come by.]]
The planet of executioners (apparently it's named Carnathon) contacted Gallifrey to look for a Time Lord to kill Missy. Gallifrey referred Carnathon to the Doctor because they want the Doctor to spend the next thousand years in one place guarding her body rather than running around the universe causing trouble.

** A ''Radio Times'' report suggested him as a frontrunner. Not only is he non-white, he also played Waris Hussein in ''Film/AnAdventureInSpaceAndTime'', so there's a certain element of meta-ness to the possibility.

** Or he could play [[Characters/DoctorWhoMasters The Master]]. (Oh wait, he did.)

* Right now, the three names that appears to be the favorites are [[Series/DeathInParadise Kris Marshall]], [[Series/{{Fleabag}} Phoebe Waller-Bridge]], and [[Series/FridayNightDinner Tom Rosenthal]].

** '''Unlikely''' because no matter how good he is at doing a British accent, the world will end before the BBC casts an ''American'' as the Doctor. There would be riots in the streets. [[UsefulNotes/HMTheQueen The Queen]] [[JustForFun/OneOfUs would tut in disapproval]].

[[WMG: The Monks' similarity to the Silence isn't coincidental.]]
Both of them are creepy aliens who manipulate memory for the sake of a conspiracy. We know from "Time of the Doctor" that the Silence are genetically engineered creatures, but from who or what? Maybe the Monks. Thanks to time travel the Silent Priests were made after the Monks' invasion, so maybe the Papal Mainframe used the latter as the genetic template for the former. The Monks' true form would probably resemble a Silent.

[[WMG: The Doctor could fly the TARDIS by memory]]
Blind pets navigate by memorizing the layout of their surroundings. The Doctor has been operating those controls for so long he knows excatly where every button, lever, and switch is, and doesn't need to see them any more than a blind cat needs to be able to see where the living room furniture is.

* ''Radio Times'' [[http://www.radiotimes.com/news/tv/2017-12-08/doctor-who-christmas-special-set-visit/ has revealed the Daleks DO have a role in this story]], but that doesn't necessarily mean they're a BigBad / BiggerBad; it could just have to do with the backstory -- especially since the RT was allowed to reveal this in the first place.

[[WMG: Nardole is Dorium Maldovar.]]
Nardole has mentioned he swapped his face while on the run and used to be blue. He also has a criminal past. Dorium's home era was some time in the 52nd century, and he's somewhat unscrupulous. Maybe they're the same guy? Nardole's age when the monks invade is 237, which could work as an age for Dorium so long as he's not too old when we first seem him(assuming TheSlowPath, 5145 to 5343 would still allow Dorium to be 39 tops when first seen, and even then this is a universe with time travel). And would it be that hard for Dorium to have his head transplanted on a new body once he gets bored of not having one? Wanting to move away from his old life Dorium went under a new identity and through his life of crime underwent a number of plastic and vocal surgeries to become Nardole. He still gets along with the Doctor, but would rather not mention their past when he was Dorium. Yes, I know 12 meets Dorium in the comics, but even if they are treated as canon this could just be an out of order adventure, which would give Nardole more reason to not reveal his past.

* Undoing HowTheCharacterStoleChristmas. "Turn Left" was a variation on WonderfulLife, "A Christmas Carol" took care of YetAnotherChristmasCarol, and "Last Christmas" has a touch of GiftOfTheMagiPlot with the Doctor and Clara's mutual lies coming to light, leaving a ''How the Grinch Stole Christmas!'' variation as the last Christmas-specific stock plot for the show to cover. Not to mention this could be a ''hilarious'' vehicle for Missy -- maybe that "clever idea" she had on Skaro was a wonderful, terrible, awful idea!
