* NintendoHard: Even on Easy Mode, this game can give the player really ''[[FakeDifficulty cheap]]'' deaths, partly due to your [[HitboxDissonance overly large collision box]]. Made worse by the fact that you have ''zero'' continues for this game, so once your lives are gone, GameOver! Calling this game hard is an ''understatement''.
* OneHitPointWonder: Averted. You can take three hits before dying.

* KillOneOthersGetStronger: The mini-bosses of Stage 3. Killing one of them makes the other one [[TurnsRed go berserk]].
* KungFuProofMook: One of the enemies in the third stage is an electrical orb surrounded by four smaller ones that orbit it. Turns out, as long as one of the smaller ones is alive, it will project DeflectorShields around the big one. You will have to take down the smaller orbs before you can destroy the big one.

''Reloaded'' removes this trait, instead turning all four orbs, the barrier, and main core into a single enemy with a lot of health.

Dewicked trope

* EverythingsBetterWithDinosaurs: The second mini-boss of the fourth stage. You don't actually fight it, you fight this giant cannon on its back that doesn't really hamper the beast when you destroy it.

The game contains five levels, the first four of which are based off [[UnderTheSea water]], [[LethalLavaLand fire]], [[ShockAndAwe lightning]] and [[BlowYouAway wind]]. The final level "[[PowerOfTheVoid Void]]", is a bleak level whose terrain ''is'' the final boss itself.

!!Steel Saviour features examples of:
* AntiFrustrationFeature: Once you manage to get to stage 2 and 3, you can start off from there in a new game instead of having to go through stage 1 again.
* AdvancingBossOfDoom: The start of the second stage "Heat" has this weird flying horse-dragon machine hybrid thing chase you from behind, before it gets stopped by a narrow corridor. You get to fight it head-on later.
* BattleInTheRain: [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9eKTHOPSk98#t=03m25s The first boss]].
* BigCreepyCrawlies: Several of the enemies, especially the fourth boss (a giant worm) have elements of this.
* BodyHorror: [[http://www.atlantide-design.it/SteelSaviour/sshots_hi/w3_snap421.jpg THIS]] mini-boss. And yes, those orange round things are homing.
* BreakableWeapons: Your secondary weapon can take damage for you, but in the process will lose ammo. When your secondary weapon's ammo is depleted, it breaks off.
* CollisionDamage: Gets really irritating in narrow areas, due to HitboxDissonance.
* CoolShip: The first mini-boss. It tries to drop mines on you at first, and when that can't get the job done, [[http://www.atlantide-design.it/SteelSaviour/sshots_hi/w1_snap085.jpg it opens up and reveals]] a [[AttackItsWeakPoint set of destructible turrets]]. Destroy those to put an end to it.
* CombatTentacles: The final boss has four sets of three tentacles. The first just shoot aimed shots at you like turrets. The second one is like the first, but with {{spread shot}}s. The third and fourth, which you both fight at a time, will give you a MacrossMissileMassacre!
* {{Combos}}: Killing enemies [[KillStreak in a chain]] allows you to score combos. It's also a requirement for recovering hit-points, gaining power-ups, and extra smart-bombs.
* CosmicHorror: The enemies are implied to be created from the planet's life-force.
* DualBoss: The second mini-boss of the [[ShockAndAwe energy-themed]] stage, two [[http://www.atlantide-design.it/SteelSaviour/sshots_hi/w3_snap451.jpg fish-like creatures]] that attack together. When one of them is defeated, [[TurnsRed the second one gets kinda pissed]].
* EternalEngine: The last third of the [[ShockAndAwe electric-themed]] stage has giant rotating gears and a pair of deadly crushing walls. It can use the electric generators to [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NDa-xxKUIk#t=02m07s summon lightning]].
* EverythingsBetterWithDinosaurs: The second mini-boss of the fourth stage. You don't actually fight it, you fight this giant cannon on its back that doesn't really hamper the beast when you destroy it.
* EverythingsWorseWithBees: One of the first few enemies you fight are mechanical-looking bee things that come in swarms.
* FireIceLightning: Replace Ice with Water and you have the game's first three stages consisting of water, fire, and lightning respectively.
* GiantEyeOfDoom: The [[SequentialBoss final part]] of the final boss has you fighting his gigantic eye. Naturally, GoForTheEye.
* HitboxDissonance: Averted. The entire ship is one big hit-box.
* HomingProjectile: One of the sub-weapons you can get is homing missile. Some enemies will also use these on you, but theirs are thankfully destructible (unless it's the from the final boss).
* IncrediblyDurableEnemies: One of the reasons why this game is relentlessly brutal. The regular Mooks that attack in waves will need ''at least'' 2-3 shots to die. And that's from your fully powered-up gun...
* LethalLavaLand: Stage 2, "Heat", takes place in a lava cavern.
* MechaMooks: The enemies. Well, most of them.
* MechanicalHorse: The mini-boss of Stage 2, "Heat" is [[http://www.atlantide-design.it/SteelSaviour/sshots_hi/w2_snap393.jpg a bizarre robotic horse]] that fires out fireballs from its hover engine.
* OurDragonsAreDifferent: The boss of "Heat", a mechanical dragon.
* RealTimeWeaponChange: You can easily swap between the SpreadShot, Missiles and Machine Gun at the press of a button.
* {{Robeast}}: A lot of the bosses and mini-bosses are these.
* SceneryPorn: The 3D-esque graphics of your character, the enemies and the scenery are simply wonderful. Also, the ambiance, such as lava, glows appropriately.
* SeaMine: The first stage's mini-boss, a large boat thingy, drops these on you. Get out of the way or destroy them quick before they blow up in a SphereOfDestruction!
* SegmentedSerpent: The second stage has these. The boss of the fourth stage is one too.
* SequentialBoss: The final boss is one of these; you fight parts of it throughout the entire level.
* ShockAndAwe: The third stage, "Purity" is an energy-themed one. "Energy" as in the form of electric traps, lightning strikes, DeflectorShield enemies, and floating neon tubes that shoot sparks at you.
* ShoutOut: This game has multiple shout outs to ''VideoGame/{{Einhander}}'', especially the way your ship carries its weapon. You weapon is also destructible, similar to ''Einhänder''.
* SmartBomb: You have a smart bomb for use in dire situations.
* SpiderTank: One of the enemies in the [[LethalLavaLand second stage]] and the [[BlowYouAway fourth stage]] is this. Be careful of its SpreadShot!
* SpreadShot: One of your secondary weapons.
* TacticalSuicideBoss: The fourth boss, a giant worm. It sends out many destructible spores that expand when hit... which you can destroy for combos, allowing you to get smart bomb power-ups. You'll need to use the smart bomb to clear its BeamSpam while delivering a massive blow to its weak point.
* UnderTheSea: The first stage, "Power" takes place in a sea cavern.
* WrapAround: The fourth boss (a giant worm) does this. It goes off-screen to the left and comes in on the right.
