* DummiedOut: [[https://tcrf.net/Mortal_Kombat_II_(Arcade) The game has several unused sprites within its coding, mostly hinting at unused moves.]] Rule of thumb is that some of these ideas later got used in ''Mortal Kombat Trilogy.''
** Sub-Zero had sprites for an aerial version of his ice blast move as well as a colour-corrupted version of Reptile's invisibility animation.
** Kintaro has an unused move where he grabs you and punches you away. This later got undummied for ''Mortal Kombat Trilogy''. He also has an unused sprite set of him standing and watching a fight, probably in Kahn's Arena. An image of Kintaro can also be found in the data, similar to the Goro intro from the previous game. Said image was later cropped and used for Kintaro's character select image in ''Trilogy'' as well.
** Shao Kahn has several unused assets such as an animation of him standing up off of his throne, an aura that would surround him in his laugh winpose, a clapping attack, a throw where he grabbed and punched you away, a double handed hammer punch, a possible unused fatality where he'd thrust his fist into a portal where it would emerge from above, gigantic, crushing his victim, and finally, an unused hammer attack [[VideoGame/MortalKombat3 one whole game early.]] The grab-punch throw and hammer punch later got used in ''Mortal Kombat Trilogy''.
** Baraka has an unused forward-flip move where he flipped towards you using his blades as leverage as well as his spinning slash which he got in ''Trilogy'' onward.
** Raiden has an unused possible fatality where he lifted his victim over his head and electrocuted them to death. This later appeared for real in ''VideoGame/MortalKombat4''.
** Kung Lao's torpedo special sprites can be found as well.
** One rather odd dummied out sprite is, of all things, the [[Wrestling/WorldWrestlingEntertainment World Wrestling Federation]] logo, possibly as part of a scrapped advertisement.

Neither the series nor its developers insist on spelling things this way. It's been noted that they don't particularly try for it, but if someone notices the hard C sound in a certain bit of in-game text during development, they'll put a K there instead. But it's not a requirement and doesn't show up very often.

** "Toasty!" can even show up without Forden's picture. In the arcade version, losing to Noob Saibot results in Kahn saying "Feel the power of..." as opposed to saying, "Noob Saibot Wins", and just as he's about to say "Shao Kahn!" you'll instead hear "Toasty!". In the SNES version, Kahn instead precedes the "Toasty!" with "You will die, mortal!", which kind of ruins the joke.

The Emperor of Outworld, Shao Kahn, is furious with Shang Tsung's failure to achieve victory in Mortal Kombat. As Kahn [[YouHaveFailedMe prepares to end]] the sorcerer's life, Tsung comes up with an idea to save his skin: since the invitation to Mortal Kombat cannot be refused, if the Earthrealm warriors were challenged to a tournament in Outworld, [[ButThouMust they would have to accept]] -- and, once there, Kahn's Outworld warriors (led by Shokan warrior Kintaro, who seeks revenge for the death of Prince Goro) could kill them and conquer Earthrealm itself. Kahn approves of Tsung's idea and restores his youth as a gift. Earthrealm's warriors accept Kahn's challenge, and once in Outworld, they come face-to-face with numerous new foes, all of whom are ready to crush a few skulls.

* TheComputerIsACheatingBastard: The AI in this game is absolutely ridiculous. After the second round, the CPU does A LOT of things are IMPOSSIBLE for human players to do. Like dodging an uppercut or blocking throws and counterattacking with their own. The computer is sure to make anyone rage.

* DevelopmentGag:
** Liu Kang can turn into a dragon which resembles the logo of the series.
** In ''2'', Johnny Cage had a "triple" decapitation fatality that worked like the regular one, only instead of one head, Cage knocks off three. [[AscendedGlitch This finisher move referenced a glitch]] discovered in the original ''VideoGame/MortalKombat'', where Johnny Cage could knock off multiple heads in his fatality.
