* TechnicolorMagic: Being in range of an active Resonator tints the player's vision magenta. This is otherwise {{Averted}} though, as the mod's actual magic is generally represented by a pale gold color.

* RitualMagic: The source of all the magic in the mod, used for traps, summoning, and memorizing spells. Rituals require an octogram and the symbol of a Great Old One to be drawn on the ground, with the necessary reagents placed at the octogram's points. Some of the rituals have special requirements, such as the presence or sacrifice of certain creatures.

* LovecraftianSuperpower:
** The [[EliteMooks ascended]] variants of the normal cultist mobs are cultists who have undergone the proper ceremonies to being themselves closer to their gods, and often possess both powerful magic and strange physical mutations.
** All magic is this. Learning it involves scarring your psyche with eldritch knowledge, using it decreases your SanityMeter, and the spells themselves include things like allowing you to [[{{Autocannibalism}} devour parts of yourself in order to restore your hunger]] and [[InfectiousInsanity drive other people insane]].
