* HiredGuns: Mercenary units occasionally show up in your county, and if you can afford to hire them, you can have a large group of soldiers ready with their own weaponry. However, if you fail to pay their wages even once, they will immediately leave.

* MercenaryUnits: Mercenary units occasionally show up in your county, and if you can afford to hire them, you can have a large group of soldiers ready with their own weaponry. However, you are allowed only one mercenary company per army, and if you fail to pay their (relatively expensive) seasonal wages even once, they will immediately leave.

Added DiffLines:

* ActionizedSequel: The economy was greatly streamlined compared to the first game, as sheep and wool were removed entirely, trade with merchants was simplified (availability and price differences were removed) and production speeds were greatly increased. Custom castle design was removed and replaced with five generic layouts of increasing complexity. Combat was also reworked, with a more "realistic" system based on slow-moving blocks of troops giving way to a fast-paced one reminiscent of ''VideoGame/WarcraftII''.

Added DiffLines:

* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: The original ''Lords of the Realm'' had an additional nobleman, the Earl, but he's not present in this game and no explanation is given for this.

* BlatantLies: The Bishop has a tendency to do this, such as telling you his army is in your lands on a purely fact-finding mission. Then said army lays siege your castle.

* DirtyCoward: At the end of the day, the Bishop. He's out to take the Crown and wants to do so by any means necessary, but when finally defeated he takes his loss the least gracefully, begging the player for a job in the kingdom in one quote and for his life in another.

* ThereCanBeOnlyOne: If the only remaining AI is your ally, they'll break the alliance, explicitly for this reason. Co-rulership is not an option.
* VideoGameDelegationPenalty: Choosing to "auto-calc" a battle in is generally not recommended unless you massively outnumber your enemy. Your troop losses will be much higher if you do, plus there's some odd corner cases in the formula that can result in you losing what ought to have been a CurbStompBattle in your favor.

Added DiffLines:

* AllThereInTheManual: The manuals enclosed with the original editions of the game include one-page descriptions of each of the nobles and their personalities, some aspects of which are only vaguely alluded to by their in-game quotes and behavior.

Added DiffLines:

* GracefulLoser: While all of the enemy nobles' defeat quotes show their frustration, fear or anger towards the player to some extent or another, one of the Baron's quotes simply states that he isn't bitter and that he will return someday.

* OhCrap: In one of the Knight's defeat quotes, he'll state that even though he's lost his forces, he still has his sword. He declares his intention to fight the player's army single-handedly... then realizes that he doesn't have his sword on him anymore and panics.

* ShoutOut: One of the Knight's warning letters has him threaten to [[Film/MontyPythonAndTheHolyGrail chop your arms and legs off]].

Dummied Out is now trivia. Moving examples accordingly.

* DummiedOut: All of the voice recordings are .wav files, and some don't ever get played in the game. In particular, there are recordings where the lords gloat over a victory, such as the Knight saying, "I won! I really won! I can't believe...! I mean, of course I won. I never had any doubts." If you are actually wiped out in-game, you just get a generic message with no vocals.

** Arrows fired by archers will pass through friendly troops. This is what makes pikemen and archers so strong together, whereas the ''Franchise/TotalWar'' series would have your pikemen get arrows in the back.
