''Loot Box Quest'' is a satirical 2017 IdleGame that's sort of a sequel to ''VideoGame/DLCQuest''. You want to buy the game ''[=MacGuffin=] Quest 2'', which you eventually do buy, but are unable to play as the title character until you find them in a lootbox... if you can even succeed at doing that, all you seem to find is trash items, but that will help out with earning money for other goals.
----
!!This game provides examples of:
* AntiPoopSocking: At the end, [[spoiler:you're shown a button that says "Go Outside" and clicking it turns off the game.]]
* AutoSave: There's an auto-save option in the settings. Otherwise, you have to save and quit there.
* BreakingTheFourthWall: After playing for 90 minutes, Ben (the developer) will tell you that you've been playing for that amount of time and if you want a refund, you may still be eligible, and if you're having fun, that's great.
* BribingYourWayToVictory: InUniverse, you start putting gameplay-altering buffs in loot boxes, which later become core game elements.
* BumblingSidekick: InUniverse, you play ''[=MacGuffin=] Quest 2'' as Bumblo the bumbling sidekick (the game uses that term) who can't even jump.
* DeconstructionGame: Of LootBoxes and other {{Microtransactions}}. Players buy them, but trying to monetise everything makes the game unfun and causes the industry to collapse.
* DeliberatelyMonochrome: The game and it's icons are entirely black and white. The only color seen is green for upgrade prices.
* DepartmentOfRedundancyDepartment: The GameWithinAGame, ''[=MacGuffin=] Quest 2: The Quest for [=MacGuffin=]''.
* HellIsThatNoise: One of the late-game upgrades makes your games emit an unpleasant inaudible sound if people aren't buying loot boxes.
* LootBoxes: The main part of the game. You use lootboxes to get the ability to play as [=MacGuffin=]. After a while, you make your players buy them and more advanced forms of them, including ''lute'' boxes.
* NoFairCheating: The ''[=MacGuffin=] Quest 2'' devs get smart after you have five bot accounts and decide to ban any new ones created.
* PermanentlyMissableContent: It's not possible to earn the achievements for releasing a certain number of games after you become a Publicly Traded Company.
* SoundtrackDissonance: The game plays one same fast-paced and upbeat track. It fits most of the early parts, but not the ending when things become more solemn.
