''Destiny'' is an upcoming [[MassivelyMultiplayerOnlineRolePlayingGame Massive Multiplayer Online Roleplaying]] FirstPersonShooter ([[InsistentTerminology though they prefer to call it a "Shared World Shooter."]]) developed by {{Creator/Bungie}} Studios. It's their next big series after ''{{Franchise/Halo}}'', and has been likened to "''VideoGame/WorldOfWarcraft'' [[AC:[[RecycledInSpace in space]]]]"[[note]][[MemeticMutation and much more sophisticated!]][[/note]]. ''Destiny'' takes place on a post-apocalyptic Earth, where humanity was nearly destroyed by alien foes but was suddenly saved by a mysterious entity known as "the Traveler". The enormous sphere settled above Earth and mankind built a city underneath it to reside in safety. Now they're beginning to spread out, and it's up to you, the Guardians, to defend and expand humanity from the patrolling alien enemies in order for man to return to the stars once again. * TheEternalChurchill: [[CataclysmBackstory Humanity lost an empire,]] and with the help of [[AppliedAlienPhlebotinum the Traveler]], [[{{Cyborg}} the]] [[ProHumanTranshuman Transhuman Exo]], and [[MagicEnhancement the]] [[FairFolk Awoken]], we intend to get it back.

* HollywoodTactics: The "[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jS1BM9XRgvw Law of the Jungle]]" trailer shows Guardians engaging in firefights while standing out in the open, surrounded by enemies and with no cover of any kind.

** The [[http://www.bungie.net/7_Destiny-Drawing-Board-Thunderlord/en/News/News?aid=11089 Thunderlord]] is also very, very flawed, apparently. According to the website, "“The ammunition is some kind of monster that they wouldn't normally use... The use of electro-static rounds over this amplitude has been prohibited due to their volatility.”" Not only that, but the quote from the design philosophy for this game is “At any moment, this gun should feel like it might blow up in your hands.” In other words, handle with care.

* AlienInvasion: Takes place after one.

* FlawedPrototype: The [[http://www.bungie.net/en/News/News?aid=11179 Conduit F3 Fusion Rifle]], an EnergyWeapon rebuilt from [[ImportedAlienPhlebotinum reverse engineered alien technology]]. It is extremely powerful, [[MoreDakka firing rapidly]] and often [[ArmorPiercingAttack over-penetrating]] targets, but thanks to poor understanding of the underlying technology, [[ToxicPhlebotinum has issues with its radiation shielding]]. The technology is slowly improving as new models are introduced, but it remains a limited production weapon due to these dangerous drawbacks.

* Precursors: Humanity's former empire is long gone, analogous to Atlanis on the scale of the entire Solar system. Whether humanity was [[BenevolentPrecursors benevolent]], [[NeglectfulPrecursors neglectful]], or [[AbusivePrecursors abusive]] reamins to be seen.

* SlidingScaleOfIdealismVersusCynicism: Bungie purposefully designed Destiny to be much further toward the idealistic side than most modern shooters. Their aim was to create an adventurous, inspiring setting where HopeSpringsEternal and JusticeWillPrevail.

* MohsScaleOfScienceFictionHardness: In keeping with its ScienceFantasy, SpaceOpera, and PlanetaryRomance aspirations, Destiny is fairly soft, seemingly a 2-3.

** Hunter: UnderTheHood, BadassCape, CoolHelmet - Hunters' helmets tend to feature goggles, gas masks, hoses, and filters.

* BigDumbObject: In classic ScienceFiction style, The Traveler is a mysterious sphere that kickstarted humanity's Golden Age and continues to protect and empower humans in some capacity.

* [[AWorldHalfFull A Solar System Half Full]]: When humans regain space flight, all of their colonies have been overrun by hostile aliens. However, Bungie has been very clear that [[TheEternalChurchill humanity's sense of hope and determination]] is a key theme, and that we can fight back and regain what we've lost.

* [[CrapsackWorld Crapsack Solar System]]: When humans regain space flight, all of their colonies have been overrun by hostile aliens.

* SpheroidDropship: The Traveler, which appears to be miles high.
