* AbusiveParents:
** Deimos is shown to be an absolutely awful parent to his golem creations. Because he sees them as nothing more than tools, he never gives them genuine love or affection, or even teaches them how to take care of themselves- Iris, his daughter, is completely ignorant of the human world and does not even know how to eat or socialize. He is also willing to harm his golems for [[YouHaveFailedMe failing him]], disagreeing with him, or just because he is in a bad mood. Even their deaths are but an inconvenience to him.
** Corren and Irene, who gave birth to [[spoiler:Abel]], treated him badly his whole life simply because he was born ‘imperfect’. Eventually, he [[SelfMadeOrphan turns on them and kills them]].

* TheChosenOne: Slade is chosen as the savior of this world.

* DevourTheDragon: [[spoiler:Deimos, in the battle against him, kills his two Druid helpers to absorb their power.]]

* HopelessBossFight:
** The first battle against Shadar cannot be won- at that level, Slade's attacks can only do 1 or 2 damage. Shadar initially refrains from attacking before using a spell to end it.
** Both fights against Orion cannot be won, as he is powerful enough to slaughter your party in a manner of minutes.
** The first fight against Odin, in a similar manner. [[spoiler:Apollo]] interrupts him before he gets a chance to attack.
** In the second battle against the Harbringer, he [=auto-KOs=] Slade after a few turns.

* OverlyNarrowSuperlative:

* SoleSurvivor: [[spoiler:Prince Galahanzer is revealed to have been the only survivor of the Firebrand-possessed Khan's mass-murder.]]

* JerkassGods: The Demi-Gods are mass-murderers seeking to take revenge on the world for mistreating them.

* AristocratsAreEvil: Arch Duke Deimos is one of the major villains of the game and a despicable tyrant and MadScientist.

* ClimaxBoss: Deimos is a major antagonist who is built up for much of the game, and he is fought at the end of the third quarter, after a long trek through his castle, with difficult enemies and bosses in between. [[spoiler:After being defeated the first time, he even reveals his powerful [[OneWingedAngel true form]], and he turns out to be a god himself.]] Yet, despite seeming everything like a FinalBoss, the player knows that they will have to fight the Demi-Gods afterwards.

* DisguisedInDrag: When he first encounters Slade, Sarius disguises himself as [[spoiler:Marietta, the famous singer]].
* DisproportionateRetribution: Deimos eventually kills a golem just for questioning him.

* {{Flashback}}: Humorously subverted In one instance. Sharn is about to recall the time when he tried to kill Narik, and the screen begins fading to black... before Sharn stops and says “Nevermind” due to him realizing he is being spied on.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: [[spoiler:Deimos implanted a device in Orion that would force him to go out of control at his command. Orion uses that same device to unleash his full power and [[TakingYouWithMe bring Deimos down with him]]]].

* LackOfEmpathy: When Alianna dies in battle, Deimos respond by saying that, because she is a golem and not human, she was merely destroyed. He then [[YouHaveFailedMe kills her sister Fianna]] and punishes Sarius for being angry about it and betraying him by [[spoiler:[[MindRape shattering his mind and soul]]]].

* LiteralMinded: When Sharn says that [[spoiler:Abel]] had his head up his ass, Iris asks if such a thing is even possible.
* LoadBearingBoss: When [[spoiler:Deimos]] is finally killed, his castle begins sinking, requiring the heroes to flee the castle in 8 minutes.

* SelfMadeOrphan: [[spoiler:Abel]] killed his AbusiveParents using his newfound powers after [[spoiler:Apollo]] manipulated him into doing so.
* SlaveryIsASpecialKindOfEvil: It turns out that [[spoiler:Apollo keeps the souls of humans that he and the other Demi-Gods have killed and enslaves them, keeping them in a state where they [[AndIMustScream cannot even speak]]]].

* TakingYouWithMe: [[spoiler:Orion]] does a heroic version of this when he unleashes his full power, knowing it will kill him, to bring Deimos down for good.
* ThisCannotBe: When Shadar informs Deimos that he killed Durandal:

Long ago, the world was ruled by Proteus and his children, the Demi-Gods. But soon, a war between humanity and the gods changed that forever. Prince Galahanzer, a hero chosen to save the world, found himself drawn into the middle of the war and disappeared, never to be seen.

Years later, Slade, a boy training to become a knight of the Kingdom of Ragan, encounters the sinister Shadar, the Malevolent Shadow feared all across the world for his cruelty. Slade becomes determined to stop Shadar, but in the process discovers the truth of the ancient war and the state of the world itself.
