History VideoGame / BreathOfDeathVII

A parody roleplaying game by Creator/ZeboydGames, available on Xbox Live Indie as well as on UsefulNotes/{{Steam}} on the PC. The game takes place after a [[AfterTheEnd nuclear apocalypse wipes out mankind,]] leaving the undead to rebuild society. The main character is a heroic [[DemBones skeleton]] named [[PunnyName Dem]]. A sprightly ghost girl named Sara forcibly joins him on a quest to explore ruins and other such heroic nonsense.

Since then, the creators have released another game with equal levels of snark and parody called ''VideoGame/CthulhuSavesTheWorld''. Yes, the title is indeed accurate in regards to the plot. Both games are also available on UsefulNotes/{{Steam}} in a two-for-one pack; once again, they are still almost absurdly cheap for the content. The PC versions even include new content, such as new party members, more dungeons, and an alternate campaign in ''VideoGame/CthulhuSavesTheWorld''.

** The BonusBoss of the BrutalBonusLevel of the game is Dragonduck, referencing the dragons that [[UnfortunateCharacterDesign infamously look like ducks]] from ''VideoGame/{{Adventure}}''.

** A skeleton in Lufestpolis named [[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaOcarinaOfTime Nabi]] begins a conversation with "Hey, listen!" and ends it with "[[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZelda It's a secret to everybody!]]"

** The royal guards in the king's chamber at Motherbound Castle will always say "Barrel!", which is a RunningGag in the ''VideoGame/{{Atelier}}'' series.

* ThemeNaming: The towns' names are all portmanteaus of classic [=RPGs=]' Japanese and [[CompletelyDifferentTitle English titles]] - [[VideoGame/{{Lufia}} Lufestpolis]], [[VideoGame/PaladinsQuest Palad-Lennus]], [[Videogame/EarthBound Motherbound]] and [[VideoGame/{{Langrisser}} Langsong]]. The party members realize this and think that it's [[LampshadeHanging an odd thing to do]].

* SpiritualSuccessor: ''VideoGame/CthulhuSavesTheWorld'', which features similar gameplay and writing.

* RequiredSecondaryPowers: Dem can't actually speak, on account of lacking nearly every part of human anatomy required to do that. Luckily his party has a telepath, and the player gets to hear his thoughts.

* SatelliteLoveInterest: Parodied with Dem and Sara. They're arbitrarily granted the True Love power near the end, [[spoiler:though Dem's last words--so to, uh, speak--may imply it's not so arbitrary after all...]] In contrast, after Lita refuses to reciprocate Erik's advances, they gained the Scorned Love tech.

* ShoutOut: There are tons of quotes from, and gags about, a number of other games.

* {{Retraux}}: The game is an 8-bit throwback with 16-bit-quality monster and character portraits.

* RequiredSecondaryPowers: Dem can't actually speak, on account of lacking nearly every part of human anatomy required to do that. Luckily his party has a telepath, and the player gets to hear his thoughts.

* InterfaceSpoiler: The descriptions on weapons and armor dutifully inform you of who can equip them, even if you haven't met them yet.
