''When you're being converted, your nervous system shuts itself down. Your heart still beats and your lungs still pump air, yes, but you can't move for the duration of the procedure. Some people have tried to look into that, maybe a bit more than they should. They say that having bits and pieces of shiny metal for half your body was your destiny; it was always meant to be. Your old life was over the moment conversion interrupted whatever you were doing, when the metal cocoon wrapped itself around you, slowly changing you before stripping itself away. Your new life began when you looked in the mirror and saw the new symbol across your neck. You're a Machineman now, and nothing you ever do is going to change that.''

''You can't run forever. Either you give yourself up to them willingly, help them on whatever projects they do, or you run. And then you get caught. Harvester ''will'' find you. No matter how powerful your shiny new augmentations are, they will bring you in. And if you resist, you get taken to the middle of these freezing Antarctic waters. And then they throw you into Der Fels. Guess that's why you're here.''

''Welcome home.''

----

Okay! So, to TL;DR the premise of this RP:

You're a Machineman, a human being unwillingly given cybernetic augmentations by some unseen force. Machinemen first appeared three years ago on New Year's Day 2013; since that first initial surge of conversions, there has been a steady trickle of people around the world converting. Harvester, a powerful multinational research/containment organization born out of the chaos of the first few months of 2013, has found you and thrown you into Der Fels, a prison/research center off the coast of Antarctica. Don't worry, you won't spend the entirety of the RP behind bars. You'll escape. Once you have, you'll be tossed into a web of plots and intrigue, a war waged between people who want to survive and people who want the world to advance, even if that means that individual interests have to be sacrificed.

Time for some '''Rules:'''

1. No god-modding, auto-hitting, etc.

2. The outcome of combat is ultimately decided by me, the GM. Most of the time you're going to be fighting NPCs, so combat won't be an issue then--if whatever you're doing with your augmentations is intelligent (or clever and interesting, which gets you brownie points) then I'll let it fly. PC vs. PC combat can take place, though. In that event, I will decide everything on a case-by-case basis. Obviously whatever is reasonable wins out in the end, but after I look to reasonability, I look to those clever/interesting brownie points...

3. Dead people are dead and stay dead. If your character dies--and if two people, NPC and PC, are duking it out with the explicit intent to kill each other, then somebody is probably going to die--then you can, if you want, write up another character that's thrown into Der Fels. Really, though, if you're fighting an NPC that you were meant by the plot to fight...you're probably going to win. And even if you go OffTheRails and fight NPCs that you ''weren't'' supposed to fight, you're probably going to survive. So I don't foresee death being a huge issue here.

4. Don't be a dick in the discussion thread. If I think you're being a dick, I call in the forum mods, and if you're actually being a dick...well, I'll leave that up to them and will discuss whatever needs to be discussed with the mods via PM.

5. Do not 'reserve' spots in the signup thread. It makes no sense for there to be 10 filled slots when only 5 people have actually made a signup post. It means that the people who walk in here and actually make a freaking signup post ''before'' someone else won't get considered because their spot was "reserved." So no. This place operates on a first come, first serve basis.

6. I reserve the right to reject any characters from joining the RP--but of course, I will provide ways you can make your character acceptable.

7. At the end of the day, in any unforeseen dispute, what I say goes.

And, some '''Etiquette Guidelines/Suggestions''

This being the internet, having an RP across will move slowly. People have different timezones. People need to go to work. And sleep. And eat. And get sick. I understand that.

BUT, that being said, if you ''know'' that you are going to be internet-less for three days or more, please pop up a post in the discussion thread saying so, so that we know that you haven't popped off the face of the earth. ''Furthermore,'' if you have decided to drop out, ''say so''. You will not annoy me by dropping out; you will annoy me by dropping out and not saying so, leaving me twiddling my thumbs, wondering if you still exist. I won't punish you if you don't pop us a warning post, but I'll be annoyed.

Also, please use good English. Please.

If you have any questions about anything: the RP's world, the rules, whatever--feel free to pop me a PM. I'm very open to questions.
