* ActingForTwo:
** Les Lye played all the adult male characters (stage manager Ross Ewich, slobbish Senator and father Lance Prevert, LethalChef Barth, greedy arcade owner Blip, SadistTeacher Mr. Schidtler, etc.), sporting enough distinct looks that this fact wasn't immediately obvious (though Lance Prevert and Barth do sound alike).
** For 1979's Whatever Turns You On, CTV provided CJOH with a bigger budget, and so they were able to hire Creator/RuthBuzzi to play the adult female roles. Previously on YCDTOTV, adult female roles had been played by one of the older girls in the cast; in the 1981 season, all adult female roles were played by Christine.
** From 1982 onwards, the adult female roles (Valerie Prevert [wife of Lance Prevert], the English-accented librarian, the doctor's assistant, etc.) were all played by Abby Hagyard. Again, this was possible because of the increased budget, provided this time by Nickelodeon.

* AdoredByTheNetwork: While Nickelodeon didn't go as far as airing the show in multi-hour-long blocks, they did show it twice a day, and by the mid-1980s, Nick had more or less begun to rebuild its whole image around YCDTOTV, which spearheaded the network's evolution from Edutainment into something kids actually enjoyed watching, largely built around gross-out slapstick humor. Then came Series/DoubleDare, which upped the ante on the mess and gross-out humor, and Nick's transformation was complete.

Ruddy looked very grown up by the end

* DawsonCasting: Subverted then played straight with Christine [=McGlade=]. In the earliest seasons she was acknowledged as being older than the other kids and she even pointed out she was now an adult in one episode.For those curious, Christine turned 18 on 8/25/81, after the 2nd season aired in Canada but before it aired on Nickelodeon. However, by the 1983 season she was being called a kid and was lumped in with the other kids in terms of whatever child laws or rules needed to be followed. Even as late as 1986, Christine, now well into her 20s, was still used in the classroom, school bus, etc. skits. Her short stature made it less obvious that she was much older than the others, though by her final season her age was becoming harder to hide.
** Lisa Ruddy also looked (and, due to her high-pitched vocal tics, sounded) considerably younger than she actually was. She was around 11 or 12 when the series began in 1979, but could have passed for 7 or 8. This made her 17 or 18, but still able to believably play 12 or 13, when she finally left the show in 1985.

* Strangely enough, none of the cast members of YCDTOTV went on to become cast members on adult-oriented sketch shows, particularly Series/SaturdayNightLive. This might not be significant if it wasn't for the fact that two former Nickelodeon sketch show actors (Kenan Thompson from Series/AllThat and Taran Killam from Series/TheAmandaShow) actually became cast members on that show (and Killam is also notable for being on Saturday Night Lives rival show Series/MADtv, another sketch show that the You Can't Do That On Television cast could have joined either as writers or cast members). You'd think Creator/LorneMichaels or Quincy Jones would've at least considered the possibility.

* NamesTheSame: Shockingly, there was also a pilot show of the same name called You Can't Do That On Television, which premiered on ABC back in 1968 but was unable to become a weekly series. Emceed by Alan Hamel of Nightcap and featuring [=McLean=] Stevenson and future Laugh-In regular Ann Elder, it was one of the few Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In clones that didn't work out... though thankfully and oddly enough Roger Price may have channeled whoever did the 1968 version first, retooling it to the familiar kid show we all know.

* ChannelHop: Prior to the 1988 debut of Creator/YTV, the series had been seen in Canada only on Creator/CTV affiliates, usually on Saturday mornings (with the exception of the short-lived Whatever Turns You On which aired in weeknight time slots). Nevertheless, CJOH continued to broadcast the show locally in Ottawa until it stopped production. After YTV stopped airing reruns in 1994, the was picked up by the Halifax-based Atlantic Satellite Network (now a cable-only [=CTV2=] affiliate).

** Finally averted when the series was added to Creator/ParamountPlus on March 24, 2021. However, it only includes the first season of the US Version (2nd season overall) so the rest of the episodes still haven't been released. In addition, Viacom (who, despite what they pretend, don't own the copyright to the show - Roger Price and Creator/CTV jointly do) have only made the post 1983 edited versions of the 1981s available. 1983 is when Nickleodeon became advertiser supported so cuts were made to pre-1983 programs.

** To top it off, Nickelodeon's airing of the 1986 episode "Enemies and Paranoia" in 2004 (as an "Old School Pick", the last time the show was aired before The Splat was introduced in 2015) was cut short and replaced with an episode of WesternAnimation/TheFairlyOddParents. Why? Because the episode had a lot of jokes about UsefulNotes/RonaldReagan as President of the United States and the episode just happened to air shortly after Reagan's death made the news (why the channel did not opt to just air another episode is anyone's guess).
