** Abomasnow is sometimes called [[UsefulNotes/BarackObama Obamasnow]] due to similar sounding names.

** A Mr. Mime pre-evolution and evolutions for Lickitung, Tangela, and a Grass-type Eeveelution existed way back in ''Pocket Monsters 2'' (the early incarnation of ''VideoGame/PokemonGoldAndSilver''), before they were cut from the final product. These games, however, revive them as Mime Jr., Lickilicky, Tangrowth, and Leafeon.

* UrbanLegendOfZelda: Rumors persisted prior to the games' release that the starters would follow a new elemental dynamic (Fighting/Dark/Psychic instead of Grass/Fire/Water). [[HilariousInHindsight Come]] [[VideoGame/PokemonXAndY Gen VI]], where [[HilariousInHindsight they actually do.]][[note]]The grass starter is Grass/Fighting, the fire starter is Fire/Psychic (breaking the previous Fire/Fighting trend), and the water starter is Water/Dark.[[/note]]

** A beta sprite leak has revealed that most Pokémon had beta gender differences, most of which were later scraped. Some of this follows real-life logic; like that most or all of the male horned Pokémon have bigger horns than the females, but there is some strange things going on, like many female Pokémon having smaller ears, which makes no sense as this type of sexual dimorphism has never occurred in real-life. The decision to scrap all of these may have to due with all these sprites needing to be animated, and there are plenty of differences that would have just made the female needlessly uglier or less desirable to players. Some specific examples:
*** Female Charizard bizarrely has only a single ugly horn on her head instead of two. This is believed to be a reference to early official art that portrayed Charizard with one horn.

** A leak in 2020 revealed that the beta designs for Giratina and Arceus (albeit likely placeholders) looked very different from their final counterparts, with Giratina being a six-legged chimera-like being with feathery wings/crest and a two-tentacled mouth (far more mammalian in appearance than the reptilian appearance of the final), and Arceus being a quadrupedal, amorphous, shadowy entity. Darkrai's beta design was also more humanoid and corporeal than the final version.

* UnwinnableByInsanity: It's possible to permanently strand yourself on a certain island on Route 226 after trading a Finneon (which can learn Surf) to an NPC for a Magikarp (which can't). However, the circumstances are so obscure, as well as Route 226 being a post-game route, that it's highly unlikely that anyone would ever have it happen to them: you need to have Finneon as the only Pokémon able to learn Surf, nothing in your party with Fly or Teleport, no Rare Candies to get the Magikarp to evolve into Gyarados (which learns Surf) and no fishing rod to either get experience to evolve Magikarp, catch something else to learn Surf, or get yourself knocked out to go back to a Pokémon Center. Although all three fishing rods are optional, Finneon needs a Good Rod to be caught, meaning that Finneon needs to be traded from another game to make stranding yourself possible. This is probably one reason why later games simply prevent the player from trading away anything in their party that knows an HM move.

* NoFairCheating: Ever wonder why only Platinum had the Oak's Letter and Member Card released for the Shaymin and Darkrai events? It was apparently Game Freak's way of retaliating for everyone obtaining the two Pokemon with the surf and tweak glitches. They just gave out the Pokemon themselves as events and disallowed any Diamond or Pearl caught Shaymin or Darkrai from being legit. Also, players using the glitches didn't trigger the fateful encounter flag, so it would be impossible to get the Gracidea flower to change Shaymin's form.

** An ''incredibly'' minor example: an NPC in the Lost Tower is a Roughneck named Kirby and uses Cleffa, a pink spherical Pokémon that is associated with stars. [[Franchise/{{Kirby}} Why does that sound so familiar]]?[[note]]this isn't the case in the Japanese version, though[[/note]]
