** There's also Pedo9, which originated from a very creepy looking figurine made before the movie came out. It's for the best that it isn't linked to here.

* BFG: The old artillery gun uses shells larger than the sackdolls themselves.
* BFS: 8's got two; a carving knife and half of a pair of scissors (they're big to him).

* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Looking at the deleted scenes, the key around 6's neck would have been more important to the plot, with 8 playing keep away with it, and the survivors using it at the end to open a box the scientist was holding. Inside is a mirror, and a note labelled "hope" as the survivors look at their reflections.

* AllStarCast: The movie stars Creator/DanielDayLewis, Creator/MarionCotillard, Creator/PenelopeCruz, Creator/JudiDench, Creator/NicoleKidman, Creator/SophiaLoren, Creator/KateHudson and... Stacy Ferguson of the Music/BlackEyedPeas (aka Fergie). The first six are Oscar winners, the seventh a nominee. Didn't stop most critics from panning it, though the performances still got praised.
* AwesomeDearBoy: The reason Daniel Day Lewis took the role. He had been hoping to take a break after his previous film, and producers never believed he would accept it.
* DawsonCasting: Subverted. Guido in the original show is angsting about turning forty. Daniel Day Lewis was fifty at the time, so they aged Guido up by ten years. It also adds another layer to his marriage to Luisa, given the fifteen year difference between Lewis and Marion Cotillard.
* DyeingForYourArt: Both Fergie and Penelope Cruz were required to gain seventeen pounds for the film.
* FakeNationality:
** Sophia Loren is the only actual Italian in the film's cast. That being said, a few characters who were Italian in the stage version change nationalities to accommodate their actors. Carla becomes Spanish because of Penelope Cruz, Stephanie becomes American for Kate Hudson, and Lilli is English for Judi Dench (although her last name is La Fleur, indicating that she might be French). Luisa is said to have Italian ancestry but is meant to be French, like Marion Cotillard.
** Claudia meanwhile has an ambiguously continental European accent and the last name Jenssen - implying she's either Danish, Norwegian or Swiss. Presumably this is because the fair skinned blonde Nicole Kidman would not be believably Italian to audiences.
* MethodActing: Daniel Day Lewis learned Italian and frequently spoke it on set for the role. He also had his dressing room designed like a 1960s director's office.
* TheOtherMarty: Javier Bardem was cast as Gudio in the film. But he dropped out due to exhaustion, and Daniel Day Lewis was cast instead.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** The part of Claudia was offered to Catherine Zeta Jones. Not liking how small the role was, she asked for it to be expanded. When the director refused, Nicole Kidman was cast instead. Anne Hathaway auditioned too but was turned down for being too young.
** Barbara Streisand was strongly considered for the part of Lilli. Ultimately it went to Dame Judi Dench.
** Creator/KatieHolmes lobbied hard for the part of Luisa, which eventually went to Marion Cotillard.
** Rob Marshall pushed for Marion Cotillard to get a Best Actress Oscar nomination rather than Supporting Actress, not wanting her to get in the way of Penelope Cruz. Cotillard didn't get any nominations, and Cruz was up for Best Supporting Actress.

** Katie Holmes lobbied hard for the part of Luisa, which eventually went to Marion Cotillard.

** Stitchpunk: A subgenre of Steampunk. "Fiction influenced by the DIY and crafts element of Steampunk, with a prime example being Shane Acker's WesternAnimation/Nine, in which cute Frankenstein doll-creatures stitched together from bits of burlap sack try to save the world. In a wider context, Stitchpunk emphasizes the role of weavers, tinkers, and darners in Steampunk." Termed by Acker and outlined as such officially in The Steampunk Bible (page 55). * HeyItsThatVoice: Basically it's a parade of this trope. Frodo wakes up in a post-apocalyptic city, argues with the WastelandElder Captain Von Trapp, becomes bff with Amos Hart (Chicago), tussles with Jubair Al-Hakim, and flirts with Sarah Williams. other notable voices are Prometheus (The Scientist), The Knave of Hearts (6), and Bela Lugosi (2).
** Creator/FredTatasciore has also done a lot of cartoon work, especially in WesternAnimation/BenTen, which can make it a bit strange to see him in such a serious film and silent role.
