** Season 5 eventually ends up more or less adapting ''Film/TheDarkKnightRises'', featuring a Bane who needs a breathing mask to live acting as TheDragon to [[spoiler: Ra's al Ghul's secret daughter]] who is out to destroy Gotham and get revenge on Bruce for [[spoiler: killing her father.]]

** Creator/MarkHamill has praised Cameron Monaghan's portrayal of Jerome as a possible Joker candidate.

** The head of the Court of Owls drop the name "The Demon's Head," it isn't ''like'' the League's scheme, it ''is'' the League's scheme!

** Oswald's father is played by Creator/PaulReubens, who also played the Penguin's father in ''Film/BatmanReturns''--though [[GoodParents Elijah]] is a far cry from [[AbusiveParents Tucker]] [[ParentalAbandonment Cobblepot]].
** Dwight Pollard is played by Creator/DavidDastmalchian, who previously played one of Joker's {{mooks}} in ''The Dark Knight''.

* DyeingForYourArt: Robin Lord Taylor is a natural blond and dyes his hair black to play Penguin.

** In Season 3, Clare Foley (Ivy Pepper) is replaced by the much older Maggie Geha. In this case, the recasting (along with the sudden boost in age) is explained InUniverse: [[spoiler:after encountering a monster from Indian Hill, Ivy is reborn into a much older form]]. She's recasted again in Season 4, where she's played by ''Series/TheFlash'''s Peyton List (this is explained to be the next evolution of Ivy after she swallows the mutagenic potions in "The Fear Reaper").

* OneOfUs: David Mazouz is a self-proclaimed comics nerd and [[http://comicbook.com/dc/2017/12/19/david-mazouz-gotham-arrowverse-crossover-idea/ has voiced his desire]] to have a crossover with the Series/{{Arrowverse}}. He has also stated that he wants a young [[Franchise/{{Superman}} Clark Kent]] to appear on the show and is also a fan of the Nygmobblepot pairing.

* MeanCharacterNiceActor:
** Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin. While Penguin is an AxCrazy, conniving, ChessMaster with a shit-eating grin, Taylor is a down-to-Earth, friendly guy.
** Jervis Tetch is a sociopathic, incestuous creep with a complete lack of empathy for anyone other than himself or his sister. Benedict Samuel is very laid-back and, of course, ''nothing'' like his character.

* DirectedByCastMember: Creator/BenMcKenzie who plays Gordon directed the season 3 episode "These Delicate and Dark Obsessions".

* ActorAllusion:
** Jim Gordon was transferred to Gotham City from [[Series/{{Southland}} the City of Angels]].
** Alfred, played by the son of [[Series/DoctorWho Jon Pertwee]], fences with Bruce, whom he calls "Master." Also, Sean Pertwee has a son named Alfred.
