** ''The Freddy Files'' was initially supposed to be more lore-heavy than just being a simple guidebook, with lots of reveals like the culprit of the Bite of 87, the names of the missing children and William's primary motivation for killing them. The information of the unreleased version is not taken as canon anymore by Scott.

* WordOfDante: For a long time, many assumed that William Afton was ''somehow'' still alive after the events of ''Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator'' and that he, illogically, escaped from his punishment in Hell (''Ultimate Custom Night'') with no explanation as to why. This was taken as canon, until the reveal that he obviously did ''not'' survive Henry Emily's trap and the following games feature the Mimic as his replacement, quite literally [[MeaningfulName mimicking him]].

* DevelopmentHell: The only [[Fanworks/FiveNightsAtFreddys Fazbear Fanverse]] project that has seen the light of the day is ''VideoGame/OneNightAtFlumptys 3'', and even then, it was a fortuitous one, since creator Jonochrome was accused of sexual misconduct a few months after it was released, which would have probably soured fans' goodwill had it still remained in development. Nikson (creator of ''[[VideoGame/TheJoyOfCreationReborn The Joy of Creation]]: Ignited Collection'') and Kane Carter (creator of ''VideoGame/{{POPGOES}}: Evergreen'') still regularly update fans about their work on their respective games, but have yet to give a concrete release date. There's very little, if any, news about ''VideoGame/FiveNightsAtCandys 3'' (the last time Emil Macko updated about ''Candy's 4'' was in 2021). ''VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddysPlus'' is currently stuck in limbo, after its creator Phisnom's infamous online quarrel regarding ''VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddysSecurityBreach'' led him to get booted from the project.

* DevelopmentHell: The movie adaptation was announced as far back as April 2015, with Creator/WarnerBros buying the film rights and Gil Kenan signing on as director. Come January 2017, after months with little to no news, and the movie was "back at square one", with Creator/BlumhouseProductions now producing it after pulling it out of turnaround.
** As of November 2018, Chris Columbus was signed on as director, but Scott Cawthon has scrapped the script he was writing because he was not satisfied with it, and announced that he will be writing a new one.
** In a November 20 Reddit post, Scott announced that filming would begin in spring 2021. As of late 2021, however, Jason Blum (who co-produced the film) stated that [[https://collider.com/five-nights-at-freddys-movie-is-it-cancelled-2021/ Scott has yet to approve a final script]].

* ShrugOfGod: Cawthon himself admits that the idea for Golden Freddy in the first game came to him right out of nowhere. He would also say something similar in regard to Springtrap.

** In a recent interview hosted by Dawko, Scott did this a ''lot''. In the interview, he stated that he feels that the fans should find out how the story plays out themselves. Regardless, he acknowledged the constant effort and near match that Mat-Pat (WebVideo/GameTheory) made and revealed some plot points and interesting facts.

* FranchiseZombie: Cawthon initially attempted to close out the series with Five Nights at Freddy's 3, which ended on a rather conclusive note with the location being destroyed, the BigBad William Afton being crushed inside his own animatronic suit before [[KillItWithFire being set on fire,]] and his victims passing on to the afterlife. This was followed up by no less than three [[SeriesFauxnales series fauxnales]], the last of which ended with an EverybodyDiesEnding where both William's son Michael and his ex-coworker Henry [[HeroicSacrifice kill themselves to take William down with them.]] And yet new games continued to be released after that; Cawthon's retirement from game development in 2021 wasn't enough to prevent the release of ''Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach''.

* CreatorsFavorite: Despite the fandom latching on to Foxy, Cawthon largely prefers Bonnie, considering him the scariest of the bunch and has even admitted to having recurrent nightmares involving the purple lagomorph. Bonnie also appears alongside Freddy in hallucinations, and Toy Bonnie was the first new animatronic to be shown off for the sequel. Plus, y'know, [[http://i.imgur.com/2eQEo91.jpg Springtrap]].
