* AbsurdlyShortProductionTime: After his manager Jon Landau told him that the album lacked a surefire hit single, Springsteen wrote "Dancing in the Dark" [[WritingByTheSeatOfYourPants in a single night in his hotel room]] while he was on tour, then in the studio he and the band nailed the song after just six takes in a single session (it took a while to come up with a satisfactory mix of the song, though).

* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Bruce had intended to give "Cover Me" to Music/DonnaSummer as a show of appreciation for Disco music. Landau had to convince him to keep the song for himself. Instead, Bruce ended up writing the song "Protection" for Summer.

Actually Misaimed Fandom, which is YMMV

* OldShame: Bruce didn't appreciate people misunderstanding "Born in the U.S.A.", and had to deny UsefulNotes/RonaldReagan its use for his 1984 re-election campaign. Despite his best efforts, it has become a staple of American Independence Day. Some fans may continue to enjoy it as a patriotic anthem in spite of Bruce's left-wing worldview, or even as a recognition that America is not perfect.

* CutSong: Both "Murder Incorporated" and "Pink Cadillac" were cut from preliminary versions of the album. The former would later be released on a GreatestHits album in 1995. The latter was used as a B-side, later made famous being covered by Natalie Cole.
