* The opening scene of the (supposedly) final CMC meeting, and the subsequent ''sobbings'' that followed. Michelle Creber, Claire Corlett and Madeleine Peters really put a lot of effort into their characters crying, making it sound like it came straight from the ''gut'' as well as the heart.

* InUniverse of her flashback, Twilight feeling neglected when, between packing for Canterlot and preparing for the coronation, they're too busy to make their last moments with her memorable or worthwhile. Spike can't even refute it when she blows up at them. In turn, the Mane 6 comfort her and admit ''they're'' just as sad as she is that she's moving away from Ponyville after everything they've been through. Even Rainbow Dash, who won't ''[[CannotSpitItOut say]]'' she's scared of never seeing Twilight, admits she ''feels'' scared of it. This leads to the Mane 6 crying out their worries about not ever seeing each other that much, things changing, or that they may not stay friends.

* In a way, just seeing the rest of the Mane 6 aged can be quite upsetting to see. It wouldn’t be so bad since most of them have different mane styles and bags under their eyes, but then we see Rarity with a grey streak in her mane. Anybody who’s ever had friends or relatives that they haven't seen in a long time knows how jarring it is to see someone getting older.
** The fact that Twilight looks like Celestia in this episode implies she is immortal and will have to watch her friends die of old age. This, however, can be countered in that she can retire whenever she wants (and finds a suitable successor) and it has been stated she will be gone by G5's time, but the implications of this episode when it was first released made many uncomfortable at this thought.

* Granted, it had become more and more likely over the years, but Scootaloo naturally reaching adulthood and her wings still being stunted pretty much officially confirms that she is indeed permanently incapable of flight.

* On a meta-level, this being the last SliceOfLife episode before the series' grand finale. It's also the last episode where the Crusaders speak.

* It is the last episode of the series and the end of an age, both InUniverse and on a Meta level.

** Hearing the series melody in the background- heard in the theme song of every episode and the background music at the beginning of the first episode, and at the end of the final song to close out the series- will definitely exercise tear ducts of longtime followers of the show.

* This episode heavily implies for real that Scootaloo will never be able to fly due to her stunted wings.

* If you watch this episode again after having read the synopsis for G5: Not only are all the Mane 6 dead by G5's time (though presumably having lived full lives), but [[spoiler:harmony has been replaced with prejudice and hate between the types of ponies with Sunny's attempts at restoring harmony being completely ineffective, showing that [[ShootTheShaggyDogStory everything they've done to spread friendship and harmony through Equestria was]] [[AllForNothing for nothing]], and they have been forgotten by all except Sunny and her family.]]

** The trailer really emphasizes how this is the final season, and how everyone is depressed over it ending. [[EndOfSeriesAwareness It even seems like some of the characters are aware the show is ending]] and while some have a feeling of depression over it, others accept what's happening.
*** ''[[CloudCuckoolander Discord]]'' of all characters looking [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness serious, and even sorrowful]] in the trailer. Especially what he says hits home real hard, even (and especially) for the fans of the show...

** What really sells it though is the slow rendition of the theme song that plays throughout the trailer, taking a song that is always happy and bouncing and turning it into something you would expect to hear at a funeral.
* The second trailer for the final season makes it worse, such as Twilight admitting to ''all'' of Equestria that the Tree of Harmony and the Elements are gone, [[TrashTheSet Canterlot Castle being]] '''[[TrashTheSet obliterated]]''', and Twilight crying and charging her magic as Celestia and Luna are in the background trying to stop ''some'' magic force, arguably implying a '''''HeroicSacrifice''''' from the Princesses!

** Seeing Gallus, who the Tree of Harmony picked as potential bearer of the Element of Magic, as part of Twilight's guard. It's bittersweet, because Gallus is doing well for himself, but he is the only one of the Student Six not living in PonyVille when they are adults. Plus, when you consider how previous episodes have shown how much the other five mean to Gallus, it must have been a huge adjustment at first. However, considering how the Mane 6s' friendships can survive long distance, the Student Sixs' can as well, and presumably has.

* While they were all unrepentant until the end (especially Chrysalis), being turned to stone for eternity is a rather sad fate for three of the most popular villains. After their development throughout the season, especially in "Frenemies", they almost feel like a very messed-up family, so it's actually disheartening to see them end up like this. (If they are not [[AndIMustScream awake as statues]] like Discord was, their minds are in a perpetual state of nonexistence, so if never released, they're as good as dead or erased) At least they were turned to stone together.

* The whole BigDamnHeroes moment in the climax is amazing in and of itself, given that even Tempest Shadow, Princess Skystar, and Queen Novo are amongst it, yet Captain Celeano and her pirate crew, Capper, Grubber, and the reformed Storm Creatures are not.
* Cozy Glow, a child, being turned to stone, with no indication that she will ever be turned back. She could have been sent to juvie or a mental facility. The fact that she looks terrified and she showed signs of reforming in "Frenemies", makes it worse. (Though thinking of the aforementioned Fluttershy scene and a lot of the other things she's done, including trying to kill all the Mane 6 and Spike on more than one occasion, could lower sympathy from some viewers)
** There's something bittersweet about seeing Cozy Glow touching her forehead, already missing the feeling of having a magical horn, almost bordering on FlowersForAlgernonSyndrome.
** While they were all unrepentant until the end (especially Chrysalis), being turned to stone for eternity is a rather sad fate for three of the most popular villains. After their development throughout the season, especially in "Frenemies", they almost feel like a very messed-up family, so it's actually disheartening to see them end up like this. ** Twilight, Applejack, and Rarity seeing their loved ones under mind control. ''Including the young foals like Sweetie Belle, Apple Bloom and Scootaloo''.

Cadance and Shining Armor are nowhere to be seen, though admittingly for the last two we never do see the Crystal Empire post time skip.

* A small one, but when the Windigos arrive, the pegasi and the unicorns try to do something to protect themselves, while the earth ponies claim that all they can do is hide. It's the series finale, and their inferiority to the other two tribes is still showing.

* This episode heavily implies for real that Scootaloo will never be able to fly due to her stunted wings. And if she ever does, viewers won’t be able to see it through since the series has ultimately ended.
