* Some death animations can get surprisingly brutal if you're paying attention to them:
** For Dragon Trainer Tristana, she and [[EquippableAlly Riggle]] are blasted apart, and Tristana dies. Riggle then gets up, goes over to her body and nudges it before quietly laying down beside her.
*** Thankfully mitigated by her respawn animation, which has Tristana getting up from that exact position, causing Riggle to run around in excitement/relief.

* ''In Battle, Broken'': The Ruination event did a number on the psyche of Atreus/Pantheon, who was once enslaved by Viego even despite his impressive showing against Aatrox and wrestling his body back for control by a Targon Aspect. Throughout the story, you read as the man returned home to Targon ''[[DespairEventHorizon completely broken]]'', unsure if he's worthy of taking the Aspect of War if that's what he amounted to, defeated, enslaved and doing horrible things against his will, that he had to be talked out, scolded by a trusted friend, the wife of his dead friend Pylas, Iula, that in the end, she just left him without even looking at him anymore. This is where you see the WarGod ultimately hit rock bottom and not knowing what to do, and considering that he's usually hailed as one of the premiere RatedMForManly champion of the franchise, BreakTheBadass doesn't even begin to describe Atreus' sad situation at that point.

* With the events of ''VideGame/TheMageSeeker'', Garen and Lux's battle with Sylas in the ''Warriors'' trailer becomes HarsherInHindsight. By this point in the game's timeline, Sylas has, for all intents and purposes, ''won''. The Mageseekers' leaders are dead and their remaining forces have been forcibly disbanded, Jarvan IV has ''finally'' agreed to end Demacia's persecution of mages, and an entire mage-friendly settlement has been established under Lux. But all of this ''still'' isn't enough for Sylas to stop his crusade. In his mind, so long as Demacia's current establishment is in place, there will ''always'' be a threat of the mage persecution starting again, so he insists on continuing to fight to overthrow the crown, even if it means fighting against those he once fought alongside with to stop Eldred and Wistera's madness.

* A fanmade video which also has elements of CrossesTheLineTwice. That's just mean.
** Though if you want to feel a bit better, there's a video by the same user [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ofkb5oo7nR4 where Nasus pretty much 'hijacks' Udyr's show and then takes revenge after many many uninterrupted farms]]
* Ao Shin, the champion who's stuck in DevelopmentHell and unable to escape unlike Lee Sin. And then early 2016, in spite of many clamoring "Ao Shin where", Riot announced that Ao Shin will be reworked into a new identity that is Aurelion Sol. * ''League of Legends'' [=YouTuber=] [=MagikarpUsedFly=] (best known for the "ACTUAL Champion Spotlight" series) lost his dad Ignacio "Frank" Castro to organ failure on May 30, 2016. On May 31st he posted a [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aO4eWMilDKI video]] explaining what had happened. Sad in itself, but even worse when he revealed that he has a bunch of voicemails from his dad because he didn't always pick up the phone. Devastating when Matt just sits there on camera listening to one of them on repeat, crying.

* SKT's reign as the world champions came to a shocking end at the hands of SSG in the finals of Worlds 2017, being completely crushed 3-0 in a devastating clean sweep. The match wasn't just SKT's chance for a three-peat, it also meant so much for the team's players - it was Huni's first time playing in the finals at Worlds, it was Peanut's second chance to win a championship after failing once while with ROX, Wolf and Bang would have gotten another championship under their belts, and Faker would have kept his record of winning every Worlds he had played in alive. Even more heartbreaking is Faker slumping over in his chair and beginning to cry when it was all over, as his team sits around him desolately. SSG, when coming to shake hands with SKT after winning, seemed genuinely stunned upon seeing Faker weeping. Bang quietly helped Faker onto his feet before he shook SSG's hands, and crumpled then in his chair and began crying again when they had left. Watching the person universally considered to be the world's greatest player so utterly crushed and defeated is nothing short of heartbreaking.
** Worse, as someone pointed out, before shaking SSG's hands, actually changed the screen as to not see the defeat screen.
* ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6zIGXun57U Legends Never Die]]''. It's epic and encouraging, but it has an undertone of sadness, like a dying hero's final LastStand.

* It may seem hard to believe, but even [[MadArtist Jhin]] falls under this. Surprisingly, it's not because of the pain he inflicts on others - rather, in a fair share of his lines, Jhin reflects on how he seems literally unable to stop killing and at times even seems genuinely (albeit briefly) conflicted. In the end, it comes off to the player as if [[ReluctantMonster Jhin is almost compelled]] to [[ItsWhatIDo do the things he does.]]

** Fiddlesticks brings up an equally chilling and tragic reference to this with its in-game interaction, simply naming "Gray Man...", which in context is Fiddlesticks identifying [[IKnowWhatYouFear its opponent's deepest, darkest fears and regrets]]. The direct suggestion is that Lamb and Wolf are ''terrified'' by the idea of becoming a single entity -- they're scared of returning to being alone forever.

Surprisingly, it's not because of the pain he inflicts on others - rather, in a fair share of his lines, Jhin reflects on how he seems literally unable to stop killing and at times even seems genuinely (albeit briefly) conflicted. * Most of the champions who have gone insane are more TragicMonster than AxCrazy. The aforementioned Xerath? Embittered former slave who destroyed his home empire in ATragedyOfImpulsiveness. Renekton? Attempted to deal with Xerath through SealedEvilInADuel, but centuries of this left him a twisted shadow of his former self. Malzahar? Originally a prophet who looked into the Void only after it had spent weeks/months/years(?) wearing him down. Jinx? We have no idea what happened to her, but that girl is ''broken''. Lux? Cheerful, playful mage who might be nothing inside but an [[StepfordSmiler Stepford Smiling]] semi-suicidal EmptyShell, allowed to keep no identity other than that of a soldier of Demacia.

*** What makes the story worse is [[AdultFear how this must be from the perspective of Orianna's father, Corin Reveck.]] Imagine trying to shelter your young daughter from danger until she ends up trying to explore the world herself, finding her dying as a result. You try and fix her, and it works out for a few months before she goes right back into requiring mechanical pieces to survive. [[FromBadToWorse Then you realize]] [[CyberneticsEatYourSoul that she's gradually losing her mind,]] slowly no longer being the daughter you once knew and loved, but you do still love her, so you sacrifice your wealth and clientele, having to relocate to an area with Zaun Gray that nearly killed your daughter in the first place in a futile attempt to save her. ''[[TraumaCongaLine Then]]'' you yourself become affected by illness, then finding that your daughter, in a final act of humanity, saved you by providing her heart, [[BittersweetEnding then disappeared forever, leaving you with enough clockwork figurines to make you rich and return to Piltover again.]] It's not a happy story.

* ''After watching ''WesternAnimation/{{Arcane}}'', it is ''impossible'' to not see Vi, Jinx, Warwick, Caitlyn, Jayce, Viktor, Ekko, possibly Heimerdinger, and even ''Singed'' in a more tragic light. When the bomb went off, Mylo and Claggor were killed and Vander was heavily injured, needing to use Shimmer to save Vi and seemingly dying of his wounds later. The siblings had just managed to break a hole in the wall, but Powder "jinxed" the mission. This led to Vi, who had previously defended Powder from all criticism, to punch and call her sister "a jinx", a name Mylo had called her frequently. Vi then left Powder while the latter pleaded with her sister to not leave her alone, with Vi getting arrested before she could turn back for her sister. Fiddlesticks's wording could be interpreted as it not calling her ''Jinx'' but ''a'' jinx.[[/labelnote]]

** On a similar note, Gnar's lore can be quite saddening. Imagine being a cute, happy-go-lucky prehistoric little yordle that, after watching a fierce battle and fighting to protect his newfound friends, ends up encased in true ice. After sleeping for millenia he ended waking up in a world quite different to the one he used to live in. The kicker is that all of his friends and family have died eons ago.

* Aphelios doesn't speak in-game because of the side-effects of a potion he has to drink to connect himself to his sister Alune. The stuff is poisonous and evidently painful to drink, so every match begins with his grunt of pain.

* Galio gets a few subtle ones with his WhoWantsToLiveForever lines. The melancholy delivery of some of them are especially impactful, considering he's normally a very [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness loud and cheerful character]]

* It's revealed in [[https://youtu.be/8PbhGt8XxSM/ Ruination]] that the Mist has been haunting Senna since childhood because she houses the soul of Isolde, the King of Ruination's former lover. When Viego forcefully rips the soul out of Senna's body, Isolde can be heard crying for her and sounds scared of being separated. When Senna comes to at the end, she's horrified that Isolde is gone and demands Lucien that they go back to save her. Despite the trouble it's caused her, it's heartbreaking for both women who had been together so long to be torn apart so violently.
