*After Tret's SuperPoweredEvilSide is destroyed, he realizes that he has committed a terrible atrocity by turning the people of Kolima into trees who will now die with him and the forest and loses all hope. If you read his mind you'll find that his final thoughts are begging for forgiveness from Kolima and its people. Thank goodness you get to turn things around.

*If Isaac visits his mother, Dora about halfway through the game he will find her seriously ill and bed ridden. While she and everyone else in Vale assure Isaac that it's nothing serious and to not worry, reading their minds will reveal that Dora's condition is worse than they are letting on and they're trying not to worry Isaac or distract him from his quest.
**Dora's situation in general is heartbreaking. The game starts with her thinking that she has lost the love of her life but then her son gets sent away on a journey that might get him killed, leaving her all alone. If you mind read her while she's sleeping you'll find that she still has nightmares about the night Kyle died.
* After saving Hammet and returning to Kalay, Lady Layana lashes out at Ivan and the others for going against her wishes and running off to save Hammet on their own and putting their quest to stop Saturos on hold. Ivan quietly apologizes for their actions and the group leaves Kalay to continue their quest. If you read her mind before leaving, however, you can discover that Layana is extremely grateful that Ivan saved Hammet, but she also knows that their quest is ultimately more important so she has to be cruel to make him leave Kalay and continue.
* Sheba's tearful goodbye to Felix at Venus Lighthouse as she falls to what she thinks will be her death. After learning more about her past in the sequel and motives for wanting to go on a quest with Felix, it becomes a bit heartbreaking to consider that she thought she was going to die in a meaningless way without answers.

*Alex casually mentions to Kraden that his master and father figure, Babi, has passed away and Felix's group might be getting blame for it. For a rare moment in the entire game, Kraden is left speechless and in shock for the rest of the conversation until the subject of Lemuria comes up. Seeing the normally chipper and energetic Kraden can be unsettling.

*** This troper never felt much for [[spoiler:Agatio and Karst as villains...until their death scenes. Now, Saturos and Menardi died in a dignified and non-cruel way, so it was even more of a surprise to have Karst and Agatio die like that. Neither having a chance to cure them nor to deliver a MercyKill made this whole thing quite depressing. This troper remebers having tried to use healing-psynergy and items on them as well as running back to Prox to try and get somebody to get them out of the Lighthouse. After that did not work, he regularly went back to them during his progress through the lighthouse to check if they were still alive. After having lit the beacon, he ran around Prox in search of them, until some villager told him that they died. Having heard this, the troper could not really enjoy the "happy ending", especially since nobody seemed to care about their deaths. For this troper, it kinda feels like some forced death, there certainly had to be a way to save them, if the beacon revived the adepts' parents, then why not them? The feeling that they didn't really have to die but did anyway because the plot said so is quite frustrating. Oh, and it certainly doesn't help when watching this scene again that, by now, this troper has (thanks to this site, by the way) become a fan of Duskshipping and that Karst has also become one of his favorite Golden Sun characters...]]

[[spoiler:With the Grave Eclipse having passed, the beastmen wil have to go back to worrying about Bilibin sooner or later. What happens next is on Bilibin's hands; the border could open peacably with new negotiations, [[ItGetsBetter and that dream would become reality]]. Alternately, [[ItGotWorse the gate could open by force with Bilibin troops pouring through to test the new queen's might]]; such would prove that the successors to the McCoys [[ClassicVillain are effectively void of a human spirit]].]]

* The dream version of Border Town. It's a happy, prosperous place where humans and beastmen are able to overcome FantasticRacism and live together as a harmonious community. Compare it to the real Border Town, where half the town is cut off from the other due to an impending war of expansion, the buildings are falling apart, and the people are struggling just to get by. If Camelot doesn't let us go knock some sense into the Bilibin royal family and allow that beautiful dream to come true in the sequel, then so help me...

** This troper finds the MoodWhiplash very effective in that part of the game. There's still humor - especially in the French translation, the way the NPCs talk is just funny, [[spoiler: even the dead corpses' thoughts]], and they seem to have decided to take the AngstWhatAngst route and do what's necessary to survive without moping about it... so nothing seems overdone. Just [[WhamEpisode absolutely horrifying]].

*** The dialogue right before the ending CG... [[spoiler:Garet is the ''one'' guy who didn't suffer anything through both games, not even from the boulder incident, his family is whole, functional, happy, was safe at home and happy to see him when he visited in the first game. When you reach Vale at the end, for a moment, the group (and player) is led to believe that everyone in Vale died - so while Isaac just found his dad again and Jenna and Felix finally got their parents back... Garet realizes he's all alone in the world. Then the girls start teasing him, which comes off as shockingly cruel, but it's because they've seen his family, safe and well, hiding a little way off - the mood whiplash is very intense.]]

** This troper blanched when, moments before the dark ecilpse started, was thinking to himself how the games rarely killed off anyone (who wasn't a villain or dead long before we knew them well). When all hell broke loose.... wow, irony is a bitch.

* Another one for Dark Dawn. Take a look at Volechek. [[spoiler: He is a king of a kingdom made up of beastmen (animal/human hybrids) that most of the world shuns and his kingdom lost a war to another kingdom. He helps activate the Lunar Tower, thinking it would help his kingdom rise up again. Instead, it bathes most of the world in darkness and has shadow monsters running around killing people. He tries to sacrifice himself by trying to stop the source of the problem by himself while telling his sister, Sveta, to stay behind and keep the royal bloodline strong. At the end of the game, he comes back as a huge werewolf infused with Dark Pysnergy and can barely contain himself. Sveta recognizes him but is forced to fight him and against Chalis and Blados, and then once more when they are fused into him. After beating them for good, Chalis and Blados tells Sveta that even if they activate the cannon to destroy the darkness, the natural light of the world would eventually kill Volechek since he has so much dark energy in him. Wanting to save his brother and the world, Sveta goes to activate the cannon herself, but Volechek knocks her off and does the deed himself, knowing that the intense light bathing the weapon would kill him quickly. He simply says goodybe to Sveta before dying.]]

* In Dark Dawn: the fate of [[spoiler:Champa]]. Its one of two towns that reappears, mostly unchanged, from the previous titles, but thanks to [[spoiler:the Grave Eclipse, it's full of shadow mist and dead bodies. The people who are left? They spend their time ''burning their houses'', along with whatever else they can find, to keep the shadow monsters from attacking Obaba.]] Perhaps worst of all, [[spoiler:there's no indication of what happened to Chaucha. Briggs mentions her, but we never get to find out if she died or fled or is shoveling furniture onto the bonfires or what.]]
