** ''Franchise/StarTrek'' had a good-natured Ship War on Livejournal, complete with ranked crews. Winner was Team Spork, captained by the creator of WebVideo/TheShipsCloset. [[http://community.livejournal.com/st_respect/15257.html Competition included Spock/Uhura, Kirk/McCoy, and Scotty/Sandwich.]]

** Luke has got a borderline case even before Disney took over. No one liked Callista in ''Franchise/StarWarsLegends'' but there have been debates between the contingent of Luke/Mara shippers and some who think he shouldn’t have married or that Mara wasn’t right for him.

* Back in the heyday of ''Film/SkyHigh2005'' fandom, the Will/Layla ("Lill") vs. Warren/Layla ("Wayla") fights could get heated. Will/Layla is the OfficialCouple, who are together at the end of the film, and Warren and Layla date only briefly and mostly to [[OperationJealousy mess with Will's head]], but many fans feel that [[RelationshipWritingFumble they are the better-written couple]]. The Wayla side was the most directly vitriolic, subjecting Will to all manner of RonTheDeathEater treatment in fanfiction; the less extreme ones simply have he and Layla [[NoSparks realize they liked each other less than they thought they did and break it off]], but just as common were the ones that had [[DrunkWithPower his newfound fame go to his head]] and become a controlling if not abusive jerk who [[EntitledToHaveYou treats Layla like a prize]]. Lill fans didn't really bash Warren, who is agreed to be a good character by nearly all the fandom, and instead directed their rage at Gwen, whom Will dates for about half the film, portraying her as a ditzy, sexed-up BrainlessBeauty. [[spoiler: The fact that she turns out to be both extremely smart and [[{{Understatement}} generally not a nice person]]]] in the film itself rarely comes up.

* Back in its heyday, ''Franchise/PiratesOfTheCaribbean'' fandom was split into approximately three groups: the people who wanted Will/Elizabeth ([[PortmanteauCoupleName Willabeth]]) to happen, the people who wanted Jack/Elizabeth ([[PortmanteauCoupleName Sparrabeth]]) to happen, and the ''tiny'' group who completely stayed out of it and just watched the madness, usually complete with pointing and laughing. On one forum, these "debates" got to be ''so'' bad that the administrators ''completely'' shut down all "shipping debates", and had to relegate the respective shippers to their own discussion threads

While Kelly Marie Tran and Rose have obviously faced disgusting racist and misogynistic hatred after The Last Jedi, from what I've seen, this hasn't come from Finnrey shippers, but from the alt-right/"Fandom Menace". However, Finnrey shippers are still critical of Rose, and the entry is edited to better reflect that. The Unfortunate Implications section was kept intact, as while the implications are there, it is impossible to prove either way.

** Finn/Rose becoming canon as of ''Film/TheLastJedi'' added fuel to the fire. Once ''Film/TheLastJedi'' was released, some particularly toxic Finn/Rey shippers went as far as to throw racist remarks at Rose and the actress who played her, ([[{{Hypocrite}} ironically supporting the racism they claim to be against]]). Some of them even claimed that the Vietnamese Rose is a [[UnfortunateImplications "downgrade"]] compared to the white Rey as a love interest for Finn. The fact that Finn/Rose and Rey/Kylo shippers tend to be ShipMates also increases the tensions between Finn/Rose and/or Rey/Kylo shippers and those who ship other pairings. This died down after Rose was DemotedToExtra in ''Film/TheRiseOfSkywalker'' and supplemental materials confirmed that she and Finn broke up off-screen, with Finn/Rey shippers turning their attention to warring with Kylo/Rey shippers instead.
