* RaceLift: Malcolm is white in the comics, but black in the TV adaptation.
* ShellShockedVeteran: WordOfGod is that Jessica suffers from PTSD as a result of the horrific incident that ended her career.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: Trish is obviously meant to replace [[ComicBook/MsMarvel Carol Danvers]]' role (as Jessica's best friend) from the ''ComicBook/{{Alias}}'' comic, but she could also be replacing ComicBook/SpiderWoman's function there, too - which makes sense, given how she recently aided ComicBook/SheHulk as her private investigator in the 2014 run of that title.
* UnexpectedCharacter:
** Not many expected Jessica Jones would ever see a live action adaptation, Marvel has tried many times in comic form to give her the limelight after the fairly popular ''Alias'' completed. Sadly after many attempts making her a regular background character is the most success writers have had.
** Very few people were expecting Patsy Walker to show up in the Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse at all, much less this series, as she has no real connection to Jessica in the comics. Not that it's bothering anybody...
* TheUnmasquedWorld: The series sees Jessica investigating superhuman threats, which as fans of the MCU know, have become increasingly common in-universe these past few years.
