* PsychoticSmirk: After figuring out the last two bus metas Harry does the same smile Thawne constanlty did in Season 1.

* RealityEnsues:
** Iris almost dies in the building fire due to both her inexperience as a speedster and Barry's inexperience in giving orders to those in the field.
** Also, that one time Ralph impersonated [=DeVoe=] is not enough to throw off suspicions, he has to put on the disguise again and talk to the mayor.

* {{Retcon}}: Frye's PlayingWithFire powers burn at 6000 ºF, which is stated to be 10 times hotter than Mick Rory's heat gun. Seems the writers changed their minds about the heat gun firing at the Planck temperature (aka ''absolute hot''). Perhaps they decided that Mick having access to infinite energy was a bit excessive.[[note]]If true, this is actually quite the overcorrection, as 600 degrees is only about half the temperature of the average house fire, and isn't nearly hot enough to incinerate things the way Mick loves to do.[[/note]]

* CelebrityParadox: Cisco is seen wearing a [[Franchise/FridayThe13th Jason Voorhees]] T-shirt. The [[Film/FridayThe13th2009 2009 remake]] has Caitlin's actress Creator/DaniellePanabaker as the DecoyProtagonist, and Sylbert Rundine/Dwarfstar's actor Derek Mears playing Jason himself.

* GodzillaThreshold: While Harry was trying to build his own Thinking Cap, while it might not be his best idea, it's the only one they have so Team Flash sans Cisco gives their seal of approval.

** Cisco warns Harry that if even starts acting like [[Series/StarTrekTheNextGeneration Locutus of Borg and trying to assimilate everyone]], he'll pull the plug on the thinking cap.

* SwappedRoles: The super-powered version as Iris has to contend with having the super-speed and becoming a hero while Barry gives support from the lab.

* YellowLightningBlueLightning: Speedster-Iris gives off ''purple'' lightning, making her the only character to do besides the Accelerated Man.

* JerkassHasAPoint: At teast this was intended when Ralph told Iris she didn't put her life on the line most of the time, but she has done it at least three times this season.

** The bus meta thought he was just removing powers from dangerous metas, not shifting them to random people just as likely to abuse them and harm others.

* AntiHero: Matthew Kim genuinely wants to do good, but has no problems with holding a knife to somebody who simply wants to question him.

* JerkassHasAPoint: As much of a dick as he was, Ralph had a point with Iris not putting her life on the line most of the time. By the end of the episode however, Ralph apologizes for it, as Iris proved that she is now more than willing to do so.

* {{Irony}}: At one point Barry had to teach Iris to put out a fire in a building like how Thawne coached him back in "The Trap". By that point Barry now had trouble trusting Thawne, yet he succeeded in putting out the fire. On the other hand, Iris nearly lost her own life from Barry's inexperience in teaching.

* YellowLightningBlueLightning: Speedster! Iris gives off ''purple'' lightning, making her the only character to do besides the Accelerated Man.

* DrunkOnTheDarkSide: Jaco Birch is even more psychotic and gleeful than Erik Frye with the fire powers.
* {{Expy}}: Erik Frye, in his appearance and powers, resembles the ComicBook/XMen villain Pyro. He even has an accent, although the actor who plays him (Oliver Rice) is British, while Pyro is Australian.
* FinaglesLaw: When Kim removes Erik Frye's powers, he happens to accidentally give them to another man who's just as bloodthirsty and willing to use them. Oops.
* FromNobodyToNightmare: Jaco Birch, who goes from one of the victims of Erik Frye's bank heist to getting the latter's superpowers and becoming even ''more'' psychotic than the man himself.

* IronicNickname: Erik Frye has fire powers, which he used to melt the metal door of a bank vault; Matthew Kim can transfer powers from one person to another. Guess which one Cisco named "Melting Point"?

* PropheticNames: Erik ''Fry''e has fire powers.
