* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: Weyoun realizes that Damar has stopped drinking, correctly observing that Damar had concluded that Cardassia had joined the wrong side of the war. But then he draws the entirely ''wrong'' conclusion that the recent successful raid by the Breen on Earth is what restored Damar's morale, and not Damar's secret HeelFaceTurn.

The Breen have entered the war, and they hit the Federation where it hurts: Earth. What's worse, they have developed a new weapon that drains all energy from a ship, and not even the trusty ''Defiant'' can withstand it. On Bajor, Kai Winn finally completes her FaceHeelTurn, while on Cardassia, Legate Damar does something that even the Founders never saw coming.

* AdultFear: A sudden attack on your home while you're far away. Sisko begins to fear for his wife's life because of the attack on Earth, even though they're far away from where the attack happened.

* VillainBall: The Female Changeling countermands Weyoun's order to [[SinkTheLifeboats destroy the]] {{Escape Pod}}s of the survivors on the flimsy reasoning that letting them return home to spread fear and panic would be more valuable. Quite aside from the fact that they would only have needed to let a ''fraction'' of the survivors escape to generate the same (or an even better) result, this also results in the main cast, most notably Sisko himself, living to fight another day.

* CallBack: The destruction of the ''Defiant'', and the escape pods fleeing the conflagration, is reminiscent of the ''Staratoga'''s destruction back in "Emissary".

** Weyoun does notice that Damar's attitude and demeanor have changed, saying he emerged from a dark tunnel and into the light. Of course, he's completely wrong in how he interprets it.
** Solbor is deeply suspicious of what Kai Win and Anjohl/Dukat are up to, and he has every right to be.
